Francis Leigh (died 1625)
Sir Francis Leigh (1579 – 1625) was an English barrister and politician who sat in the House of Commons between 1597 and 1622. Leigh was the eldest surviving son of Sir William Leigh of Newnham Regis and his wife Frances Harington, daughter of Sir James Harington of Exton.''HMC 6th Report: Leconfield'' (London, 1877), p. 312. He entered Middle Temple in 1597 and in the same year was elected Member of Parliament for Weymouth and Melcombe Regis. By 1600 he was a member of the Antiquarian Society. In 1601 he was elected MP for Oxford. He was knighted with the Order of the Bath in 1603 and was a gentleman of the privy chamber to James I. He was re-elected MP for Oxford in 1604. In 1614 he became master of requests and in the same year, he was elected MP for Leicester. He was High Sheriff of Warwickshire from 1618 to 1619 and by 1621 was a J.P. for Warwickshire. The House of Commons of England was the lower house of the Parliament of England (which incorporated Wales) from its development in the 14th century to the union of England and Scotland in 1707, when it was replaced by the House of Commons of Great Britain after the 1707 Act of Union was passed in both the English and Scottish parliaments at the time. Thomas Wentworth (Recorder Of Oxford)
Thomas Wentworth (c. 1568by September 1627) was an English lawyer and politician who sat in the House of Commons between 1604 and 1626. He was a vocal if imprudent defender of the rights of the House of Commons. Wentworth was the third son of Peter Wentworth of Lillingstone Lovell in Oxfordshire, a prominent Puritan leader in Parliament during the reign of Elizabeth I. He was educated at University College, Oxford and became a member of Lincoln's Inn where he was called to the bar in 1594. Wentworth was elected Member of Parliament MP for Oxford in 1604. In Parliament he was an ardent and sometimes violent opponent of the Crown and of the abuse of royal prerogatives. Clement Throckmorton (MP For Warwickshire)
Sir Clement Throckmorton was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons between 1624 and 1626. Throckmorton was the son of Job Throckmorton of Haseley Warwickshire and his wife Dorothy Vernon, daughter of Thomas Vernon of Howell, Staffordshire.DNB He was awarded BA from Queen's College, Oxford having been allowed to count 8 terms at Cambridge University. He was a student of Inner Temple in 1600. In 1624, Throckmorton was elected Member of Parliament for Warwickshire. He was re-elected MP for Warwickshire in 1625 and 1626. He was, according to Dugdale, "not a little eminent for his learning and eloquence". Throckmorton married Lettice Fisher, daughter of Sir Clement Fisher of Packington, Warwickshire and was the father of Job and Clement. Thomas Lucy (died 1640)
Sir Thomas Lucy (1583/86 – 8 December 1640) of Charlecote Park, Warwickshire was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1614 and 1640. Early life Lucy was the eldest surviving son of Thomas Lucy of Charlecote Park and his wife Constance Kingsmill, the daughter of Sir Richard Kingsmill of High Clere, Hampshire. His grandfather Sir Thomas Lucy was an MP and is noted for prosecuting William Shakespeare although there is little evidence to support this claim. Career In 1614, Lucy was elected Member of Parliament for Warwickshire. He held the seat through several elections until 1629 when King Charles decided to rule without parliament. In April 1640, he was re-elected MP for Warwickshire in the Short Parliament. In November 1640 he was elected MP for Warwick in the Long Parliament but died in December. Richard Verney
Sir Richard Verney (1563 – 7 August 1630) of Compton Verney in Warwickshire, England, was a landowner and politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1589 and 1614. Origins He was the eldest son of George Verney (d. 1574) of Compton Verney, by his wife Jane Lucy, daughter of William Lucy of Charlecote in Warwickshire. Career In 1574, aged 11, he inherited his deceased father's estates. He entered Gray's Inn in 1582 to train as a lawyer and served as a Justice of the Peace from about 1584 when he came of age aged 21. In 1589 he was elected as a Member of Parliament for Warwickshire. He was Sheriff of Warwickshire for 1590–1, during which time he became liable for a penalty of £1,000 due to the escape of an important prisoner under his custody. He was Commissioner for Musters by 1597. In 1601 he was elected as an MP for West Looe in Cornwall. He was knighted in 1603 and was Sheriff of Warwickshire again for 1604–5. William Herrick (MP)
Sir William Herrick or Hericke (1562 – 2 March 1653) was an English jeweller, courtier, diplomat and politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1601 and 1622. Life Herrick was the son of John Heyrick of Leicester and was baptised on 9 December 1562. His father was an ironmonger at Leicester. He was sent to London in about 1574 to be apprenticed to his elder brother Nicholas Herrick, a goldsmith in Cheapside. After six years he set up a business on his own in Wood Street on premises leased from the Goldsmith's Company. He also became a moneylender and in a few years he had made himself a fortune and was able to purchase Beau Manor Park from the Earl of Essex, and obtained a right to arms. He came to the notice of Queen Elizabeth, who sent him on a mission to the Ottoman Porte and on his return he was rewarded with a lucrative appointment in the Exchequer. Richard Moryson
Sir Richard Moryson (died 1625) was an English soldier and politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1621 to 1622. Moryson was the son of Thomas Moryson and his wife Elizabeth Moigne, daughter of Thomas Moigne of North Willingham, Lincolnshire. His father was a Lincolnshire gentleman who had been member of parliament for Grimsby. Moryson became a soldier and served in the Netherlands. He was knighted on 5 August 1599 in Ireland by the Earl of Essex. Subsequently, he became Vice-President of Munster, and sat in the Irish House of Commons in the Irish Parliament of 1613–15 as member for Bandonbridge. After a "long and honourable stay" in Ireland, he returned to England in 1615 and settled at Tooley Park, Leicestershire. He was appointed Lieutenant General of the Ordnance and in 1621, he was elected Member of Parliament for Leicester.
