Francis Joseph Nicholson
Francis Joseph Nicholson O.C.D. (29 April 180330 April 1855) was a Roman Catholic archbishop of Corfu, then in the United States of the Ionian Islands, a British protectorate. He was born in Dublin, Ireland. Around the middle of the 19th century, he played a role in an attempt to establish diplomatic recognition between the Holy See and the United Kingdom. Discalced Carmelites
The Discalced Carmelites, known officially as the Order of the Discalced Carmelites of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel ( la, Ordo Fratrum Carmelitarum Discalceatorum Beatae Mariae Virginis de Monte Carmelo) or the Order of Discalced Carmelites ( la, Ordo Carmelitarum Discalceatorum, links=no; abbrev.: OCD), is a Catholic mendicant order with roots in the eremitic tradition of the Desert Fathers and Mothers. A discalced congregation is a religious congregation that goes barefoot or wears sandals. These congregations are often distinguished on this account from other branches of the same order. The custom of going unshod was introduced into the West by St Francis of Assisi for men and by St Clare of Assisi for women. The word is derived from the Latin ''discalceātus'', from ''dis'' (apart, away) + ''calceātus'' (shod), from ''calceāre'' (to provide with shoes), from ''calceus'' (shoe), from ''calx'' (heel). Tamasus
Tamassos (Greek (language), Greek: Ταμασσός) or Tamasos (Greek: Τἀμασος) – names Latinisation of names, Latinized as Tamassus or Tamasus – was a city-kingdom in ancient Cyprus, one of the ten kingdoms of Cyprus. It was situated in the great central plain of the island, south-east of Soli, Cyprus, Soli, on the road from Soli to Tremithus. It is an archaeological site bordering the village of Politiko, about 21 kilometres southwest of Nicosia.
