Francis Huntly Griffith
Francis Huntly Griffith Unofficial magistrate, JP, UM (1885 – 1958) was a tea and rubber planter in Ceylon and a member of Parliament of Sri Lanka, parliament. Francis Huntly Griffith was born in Glasbury, Wales, in 1885, the oldest of five children of Reverend Hubert George Griffith (c.1849-c.1927) the vicar of Glasbury and Marion Douglas née Tucker (1864-c.1942). He travelled to British Ceylon, Ceylon in 1909 taking up a position as a manager of a tea plantation in Matugama. In 1920 he took up the manager's role at a tea plantation in Agalawatta. In October 1928 he married Nancy Barton née Robinson, the only daughter of Sir Arthur Robinson (Australian politician), Arthur Robinson and Lady Annie Summers Robinson, in St Paul's, Onslow Square, St. Paul's Church, Knightsbridge. 1947 Ceylonese Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Ceylon between 23 August and 20 September 1947. They were the first elections overseen and administered by the newly formed Department of Parliamentary Elections. Background This is considered the first national election held in Sri Lanka (then known as Ceylon). Although it took place before independence was actually granted, it was the first election under the Soulbury Constitution. Some of the major figures who had led the independence struggle were found in the rightwing United National Party led by D.S. Senanayake. In opposition were the Trotskyist Lanka Sama Samaja Party and Bolshevik Leninist Party of India, the Communist Party of Ceylon, the Ceylon Indian Congress and an array of independents. Planters Nut & Chocolate Company is an American snack food company now owned by Hormel Foods. Planters is best known for its processed nuts and for the Mr. Peanut icon that symbolizes them. Mr. Peanut was created by grade schooler Antonio Gentile for a 1916 contest to design the company's brand icon. The design was modified by a commercial artist and has continued to change over the years. History Planters was founded by Italian immigrant Amedeo Obici in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. He started his career as a bellhop and fruit stand vendor in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Obici later moved to Wilkes-Barre, opened his own fruit stand, and invested in a peanut roaster. Ferny Creek
Ferny Creek is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 33 km south-east of Melbourne's central business district, located within the Shire of Yarra Ranges local government area. Ferny Creek recorded a population of 1,524 at the 2021 census. Governor-General Of Ceylon
The Governor-General of Ceylon was the representative of the Ceylonese monarch in the Dominion of Ceylon from the country's independence in 1948 until it became the republic of Sri Lanka in 1972. History There were four governors-general. Sir Henry Monck-Mason Moore became the last Governor of Ceylon and first governor-general when the ''Ceylon Order in Council'', the first constitution of independent Ceylon came into effect.
