Francis Greenburger
Francis J. Greenburger (born February 13, 1949) is an American real estate developer, literary agent, author, philanthropist and the founder of Time Equities, Art Omi and The Greenburger Center for Social and Criminal Justice. Biography Greenburger grew up in Forest Hills, Queens, New York City, New York. His mother, Ingrid (née Gruttenfien), was an ethnic German immigrant and author. His father was the literary agent Sanford Greenburger who founded the Sanford J. Greenburger Literary Agency His father was a first-generation American and the son of Hungarian immigrants whose literary agency was like a salon which attracted an eclectic expatriate clientele, a milieu in which the young Francis found himself ensconced. He has one brother, Andre. 50 West Street is a 64-story, tall mixed-use retail and residential condominium tower developed by Time Equities Inc. in Lower Manhattan, New York City. It contains 191 residential units. Site The building is located on 50 West Street, in the Financial District neighborhood of Lower Manhattan in New York City. The site borders a high-rise rental building called 90 Washington to the north while being surrounded by a privately owned parking garage to the south and east of the structure. Architecture The building is designed by architect Helmut Jahn, known for works such as the Messeturm in Frankfurt, CitySpire, the Park Avenue Tower and 425 Lexington Avenue in New York City. Helmut Jahn (January 4, 1940 – May 8, 2021) was a German-American architect, known for projects such as the Sony Center on Potsdamer Platz in Berlin, Germany; the Messeturm in Frankfurt, Germany; the Thompson Center in Chicago; One Liberty Place in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and Suvarnabhumi Airport, in Bangkok, Thailand, among others. Starchitect
Starchitect is a portmanteau used to describe architects whose celebrity and critical acclaim have transformed them into idols of the architecture world and may even have given them some degree of fame among the general public. Celebrity status is generally associated with avant-gardist novelty. Developers around the world have proven eager to sign up "top talent" (i.e., starchitects) in hopes of convincing reluctant municipalities to approve large developments, of obtaining financing or of increasing the value of their buildings. A key characteristic is that the starchitecture is almost always "iconic" and highly visible within the site or context.
