	Francis Godolphin (1540–1608) Sir Francis Godolphin (1540–1608) was an English politician, knight, and Member of Parliament. Life The nephew of Sir William Godolphin (1515–1570), who left no male issue, he succeeded to his uncle's estates early in Queen Elizabeth's reign. He was one of the leading citizens of Cornwall, described by that county's 17th-century historian, Richard Carew, as one "whose zeal in religion, uprightness in justice, providence in government, and plentiful housekeeping, have won him a very great and reverent reputation in his country". 	Francis Godolphin (died About 1640) Sir Francis Godolphin MP (died 1640) was an English nobleman, politician, knight, and Member of Parliament. Biography Godolphin was the third son of Sir Francis Godolphin (1540–1608) and his first wife Margaret Killigrew. He represented St Ives in the Parliaments of 1624–5 and 1625, and Cornwall in that of 1626. He was also Recorder of Helston in 1620. He was still alive in 1637, and his will was proved on 2 May 1640. 	Francis Godolphin (died 1652) Francis Godolphin (died 1652), of Treveneage in Cornwall, was an English Member of Parliament. The son of Sir William Godolphin of Treveneage, he represented St Ives in the Parliament of 1628–9 and again in the Long Parliament. Unlike his relatives in the senior branch of the Godolphin family, he supported the Parliamentary cause on the outbreak of the Civil War, and continued to sit through most of the 1640s; however, there is no record of his having taken any part in proceedings after Pride's Purge. (He should not be confused with his namesake and cousin once removed, Francis Godolphin of Godolphin, who was also a member of the Long Parliament but was ejected as a Royalist in 1644.) 	Auditor Of The Imprests Auditor of the Imprests was a profitable office of the Exchequer, responsible for auditing the accounts of officers of the English crown to whom money was issued for government expenditure, from 1559 to 1785. Foundation Prior to 1559 this duty was carried out sometimes by auditors specially appointed, at other times by the auditors of the land revenue, or by the auditor of the exchequer, an office established as early as 1314. But in 1559 an endeavour was made to systematize the auditing of the public accounts, by the appointment of two auditors of the imprests. Work Substantial sums of money had to be issued to officers such as the Treasurer of the Navy and the Paymaster-General of HM Forces. 	Francis Godolphin, 2nd Earl Of Godolphin Francis Godolphin, 2nd Earl of Godolphin, (3 September 1678 – 17 January 1766), styled Viscount Rialton from 1706 to 1712, was an English courtier and politician who sat in the English and British House of Commons between 1695 and 1712, when he succeeded to the peerage as Earl of Godolphin. Initially a Tory, he modified his views when his father headed the Administration in 1702 and was eventually a Whig. He was a philanthropist and one of the founding governors of the Foundling Hospital in 1739. 	Francis Godolphin, 2nd Baron Godolphin Francis Godolphin, 2nd Baron Godolphin (2 November 1706 – 25 May 1785) was a British politician and peer. Life and career He was the eldest surviving son of Henry Godolphin, provost of Eton and Dean of St Paul's, and was educated at Eton College (1718–1721) and Queen’s College, Oxford (1723). In 1733 he inherited his father's estates in Buckinghamshire. He was appointed as Lieutenant-Governor of the Scilly Isles from 1739 to 1766 and as Governor from 1766 to his death. He served as Member of Parliament (MP) for the borough of Helston in Cornwall from 1741 to 1766, when he succeeded to the title of Baron Godolphin (of Helston) on the death of his cousin Francis Godolphin, 2nd Earl of Godolphin. He was also the recorder for Helston from 1766 to his death.
