Francis Collins (hurler)
Francis Collins is an Irish retired hurler who played as a midfielder for the Cork senior team. Born in Castlehaven, County Cork, Collins first played competitive Gaelic games during his schooling at the St. Finbarr's College. He arrived on the inter-county scene when he first linked up with the Cork senior team. He made his debut during the 1982 championship. Collins quickly became a regular member of the starting fifteen. He was an All-Ireland runner-up on two occasions. At club level Collins is a one-time Munster medallist as a Gaelic footballer with Castlehaven. In addition to this he is also a dual championship medallist having played hurling with Blackrock. Collin's brothers, Donie and Christy, also played with Cork. Throughout his career Collins made 4 championship appearances. His retirement came following the conclusion of the 1983 championship. Castlehaven GAA
Castlehaven Gaelic Football Club is a Cork GAA club in the parish of Castlehaven near the town of Skibbereen, County Cork, Ireland. The club also draws players from the villages of Union Hall, Castletownshend and Tragumna. The club participates in competitions run by Cork GAA and by the Carbery divisional board. The club is primarily concerned with the game of Gaelic football, but has fielded hurling teams in the past. They went from playing at Junior B level in 1969 to reaching the Cork Senior Football Championship final only 10 years later. Donie Collins
Donal "Donie" Collins (born 1 September 1950) is an Irish retired hurler who played as a right wing-forward for the Cork senior team. Collins joined the team during the 1971-72 National Hurling League and was a regular member of the starting fifteen for just one season until he left the panel after the 1972 championship. During that time he won one Munster medal and one National League medal. Collins was an All-Ireland runner-up on one occasion. At club level Collins was a record four-time All-Ireland medalist with Blackrock and James Stephens. In addition to this he has also won five Munster medals and five county club championship medals. Playing career Club Collins began his club hurling career with Castlehaven, however, a move to Cork city resulted in a transfer to Blackrock. Dual player or dual star is a term used in Hiberno-English to describe someone who competes in multiple sports — for example, in Victorian Ireland, cricket and hurling. 1983 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship
The 1983 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship was the 97th staging of the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, the Gaelic Athletic Association's premier inter-county hurling tournament. The draw for the 1980 fixtures took place in September 1979. The championship began on 29 May 1983 and ended on 4 September 1983. Kilkenny were the defending champions. On 4 September 1983, Kilkenny won the championship following a 2–14 to 2–12 defeat of Cork in the All-Ireland final. This was their 23rd All-Ireland title and their second in succession. Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands).
