Gordon Bell (surgeon)
Sir Francis Gordon Bell , Fellowship of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons, FRCS, Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, FRCSEd, Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, FRACS (13 September 1887 – 28 February 1970) was a New Zealand surgeon who was professor of surgery at the University of Otago Dunedin School of Medicine, University of Otago at Dunedin. He was a founder member of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and was elected its president in 1947. In the 1953 Coronation Honours, Bell was appointed a Order of the British Empire, Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire. Arthur Bell (martyr)
Arthur Bell, OFM (13 January 1590 – 11 December 1643) was an English Franciscan martyr. He was found guilty of being a Roman Catholic priest by a court sitting under the auspices of Parliament during the English Civil War. He was executed at Tyburn in London. Bell was beatified by Pope John Paul II on 22 November 1987. Biography Bell was born at Temple-Broughton near Worcester, England, Worcester on 13 January 1590, a son of the lawyer William Bell (lawyer), William Bell. When he was eight his father died and his mother gave him into the charge of her brother, Francis Daniel of Acton in Suffolk, a man of wealth, learning and piety. Sir Francis Dillon Bell (8 October 1822 – 15 July 1898) was a New Zealand politician of the late 19th century. He served as New Zealand's third Minister of Finance (New Zealand), Minister of Finance (the first parliamentary finance minister), and later as its third Speaker of the New Zealand House of Representatives, Speaker of the House. Wayne Francis Earl Bell (18 April 1944 – 3 May 1994) was a New Zealand-born actor who achieved international stardom playing the part of original character Max Ramsay in the early years of the popular Australian soap opera, ''Neighbours''. During his career he also acted in Australian serials ''The Sullivans'' and '' Sons and Daughters''. He appeared in 15 films from 1976 until his death. Career in ''Neighbours'' His character Max Ramsay, was a key character for the show's first year. Soon after the serial switched from the Seven Network to Channel Ten in early 1986, Bell abruptly left the show. To accommodate this loss, the new character of Max's brother Tom was hastily introduced. Francis Bell (New Zealand Politician)
Sir Francis Henry Dillon Bell (31 March 1851 – 13 March 1936) was a New Zealand lawyer and politician who served as the 20th prime minister of New Zealand from 14 to 30 May 1925. He was the first New Zealand-born prime minister, holding office in a caretaker capacity following the death of William Massey. Bell was born in Nelson. His father, Sir Dillon Bell, was also a politician. Bell attended Auckland Grammar School and Otago Boys' High School before going on to St John's College, Cambridge. He returned to New Zealand to practise law, settling in Wellington and eventually becoming president of the New Zealand Law Society. Bell served as Mayor of Wellington from 1891 to 1893 and from 1896 to 1897. He was elected to the House of Representatives in 1893, after two previous defeats, but served only a single term before retiring in 1896 to return to the legal profession. Francis Bell ( – 9 September 1879), was a British railway engineer, who worked extensively in Australia, and was involved in a number of important railway construction projects and bridges. Career Bell commenced his engineering career in 1837, building railways in England and Scotland, and also worked under John Benjamin Macneill, Sir John Macneill Institution of Civil Engineers, MInstCE, on the Great Southern and Western Railway in Ireland. By 1853 Bell had migrated to Australia, and in January 1854, in Victoria, was the engineer on the Australian pound, A£1,000,000 prospectus for the Geelong–Ballarat railway line. He was also listed as the surveyor for the Colonial Insurance Company, and there are a number of tender advertisements, for reinstatement for damaged buildings. Francis Campbell Bell (May 31, 1892 in Clearwater, Manitoba – May 10, 1968) was a politician in Manitoba, Canada. He served in the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba from 1936 to 1958 as a Liberal-Progressive Member of the Legislative Assembly, and was a cabinet minister in the government of Douglas Campbell. The son of Thomas Bell and Annie Edith Reynolds, Bell was educated in Clearwater and was hired by the Union Bank after he completed his schooling. Francis Jardine "Frank" Bell (January 28, 1840February 13, 1927) was a Canadian-born American politician. He was the sixth Governor of Nevada. He was a member of the Republican Party. Biography Bell was born on January 28, 1840, in Toronto, in the province of Upper Canada (a British colony at the time; Confederation would not be achieved until another 27 years after his birth).
