	Francis Matthew John Baker Francis Matthew John Baker (1903 – 28 March 1939) was an Australian politician and vice-president of the State Service Union. Baker was born in Bundaberg, Queensland. A member of the Federal Labor Party, he unsuccessfully ran for office for the Queensland seat of Oxley in the 1928 federal election, being beaten by James Bayley of the Nationalist Party. He made a second run for the seat in 1929, and narrowly lost to Bayley. In the 1931 election he contested Oxley for a third time, this time successfully. He was one of only two Labor challengers to defeat a Coalition incumbent in an election that saw the two Labor factions cut down to 18 seats between them. Following the abolition of Oxley, Baker successfully contested Griffith, essentially a reconfigured version of Oxley, in 1934 and won. He was reelected in 1937. Early life and career Baker was born in Leyburn, Queensland, Australia on 30 May 1873. Educated in private schools in Queensland, Baker became a state school teacher for 10 years before serving as an Inspector for Schools for a further 20 years. Political career In 1940, Baker was elected to represent the seat of Maranoa in the Australian House of Representatives as a member of the Australian Labor Party—only the second time Labor had ever won this normally safe conservative seat in the remote west of Queensland. A left-handed batsman born in Cirencester, Gloucestershire, Baker's career in first-class cricket spanned eight matches for the Marylebone Cricket Club, Gloucestershire County Cricket Club, and two Gentlemen's teams between 1866 and 1875. He scored 199 runs in these matches, with a batting average of 15.30. His best innings, a score of 53, came against Surrey on 4 June 1868, while playing for the MCC. 	Francis Eustace Baker Francis Eustace Baker (born 19 April 1933) is a British businessman who was the Governor of Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha between 1984 and 1988. While he was Governor, he implemented a '3 day working scheme' to help tackle unemployment and announced the plans to build the 2nd RMS St Helena, which was, up until the construction of St Helena's airport, the main link between the territory and the rest of the world.
