Francis Annesley (1663–1750)
Francis Annesley, FRS (October 1663 – 7 April 1750) was an Irish lawyer and politician who sat in the Irish House of Commons between 1692 and 1714, in the English House of Commons from 1705 to 1708 and in the British House of Commons between 1708 and 1734. Early life Annesley was the eldest son of the Hon. Francis Annesley of Castlewellan, County Down and his wife Deborah Jones, daughter of Henry Jones (bishop), Henry Jones, Bishop of Meath. He entered Trinity College, Dublin in 1679 and qualified BA in 1682 and LL.B. and LL.D in 1725. He was admitted at the Inner Temple in 1684 and remained in London during the conflict in Ireland. He was called to the bar in 1690. He made a financially beneficial marriage to Elizabeth Martin, the daughter of Joseph Martin (Ipswich MP), Joseph Martin, a London merchant, on 5 July 1695. Francis Annesley (1734–1812)
Francis Annesley (2 May 1734 – 17 April 1812) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons for 32 years from 1774 to 1806, and was the first Master of Downing College, Cambridge. Early life Annesley was the son of Martin Annesley D.D. of Bucklebury and Frilsham, Berkshire, and his wife Mary Hanbury, daughter of William Hanbury of Little Marcle, Herefordshire. He was educated at Reading School and was admitted at Gray's Inn in 1753 to study law. Career Annesley was elected Member of Parliament for Reading in the 1774 general election, and retained the seat until 1806. In 1800 he was elected the first Master of Downing College, and awarded an LL.D. degree by Cambridge. He died unmarried on 17 April 1812. Francis Annesley, 1st Viscount Valentia
Francis Annesley, 1st Viscount Valentia, (1 February – 22 November 1660) was an English statesman during the colonisation of Ireland in the seventeenth century. He was a Member of Parliament for both the English and Irish houses, was elevated to the Irish peerage as Baron Mountnorris, and later gain the additional title Viscount Valentia. He is best remembered for his clash with the Lord Lieutenant, Thomas Wentworth, who in order to render Annesley powerless had him sentenced to death on a spurious charge of mutiny, although it was clearly understood that the sentence would not be carried out. Francis Annesley, 1st Earl Annesley (27 November 1740 – 19 December 1802) was an Anglo-Irish politician and peer. He was the son of William Annesley, 1st Viscount Glerawly and Lady Anne Beresford, the daughter of Marcus Beresford, 1st Earl of Tyrone.''The Pocket Peerage of England, Scotland Et Ireland'', Volume 2 (1790), 191.
