Charles-Louis-Félix Franchot (born 16 September 1809 in Saint- Venant - 31 July 1881 in Ancerville (Meuse) ) was a French designer, inventor, mechanical engineer. He worked as a tax officer as well as developing his inventions. He is the son of an officer who fought in the revolutionary and then Napoleonic armies and ended his career with the rank of lieutenant colonel, was made officer of the legion of honor (1807) and received the title of baron of the Empire. His mother was Marie Dieudonne Wallart de Maranville. But from 1840 on, it is like "mechanic" and especially as "engineer" that he is presented in the press; he is indeed the inventor of a hot air machine (presented at the Academy of Sciences which abstains, however, to report on the invention) and especially a moderator lamp which ensures him a national fame. Nicholas Van Vranken Franchot
Nicholas Van Vranken Franchot (August 21, 1855 – May 6, 1943) was an American businessman and politician from New York. Life He was born on August 21, 1855, in Morris, Otsego County, New York, the son of Congressman Richard Franchot (1816–1875) and Ann (Van Vranken) Franchot (1822–1881). He graduated from Union College in 1875. In 1876, he removed to Olean, Cattaraugus County, New York, and engaged in the oil business. On November 5, 1879, he married Annie Conyne Wood (1859–1928), and they had five children. He was a delegate to the 1892 and 1904 Republican National Convention; and mayor of Olean from 1894 to 1898. On January 4, 1905, he was appointed by Governor Frank W. Higgins as New York State Superintendent of Public Works, and remained in office until January 14, 1907. Nicholas V
Pope Nicholas V ( la, Nicholaus V; it, Niccolò V; 13 November 1397 – 24 March 1455), born Tommaso Parentucelli, was head of the Catholic Church and ruler of the Papal States from 6 March 1447 until his death in March 1455. Pope Eugene made him a cardinal in 1446 after successful trips to Italy and Germany, and when Eugene died the next year, Parentucelli was elected in his place. He took his name Nicholas in memory of his obligations to Niccolò Albergati. The pontificate of Nicholas saw the fall of Constantinople to the Ottoman Turks and the end of the Hundred Years War. Peter Franchot
Peter Van Rensselaer Franchot (born November 25, 1947) is an American politician who is the 33rd Comptroller of Maryland. A member of the Democratic Party, Franchot served for 20 years in the Maryland House of Delegates representing Takoma Park and Silver Spring. He was elected comptroller in 2006, and has subsequently been re-elected three times. Franchot unsuccessfully ran for governor of Maryland in 2022, placing third in the Democratic primary behind Tom Perez and Wes Moore. Early life and education Franchot was born in New Haven, Connecticut, and attended Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts. He attended Amherst College, but later left to join the presidential campaign of Senator Eugene McCarthy. Richard Franchot
Richard Hansen Franchot (June 2, 1816 – November 23, 1875) was a U.S. Representative from New York and then an officer in the Union Army during the American Civil War. He was also an executive of two railroad companies, Albany and Susquehanna Railroad and Central Pacific Railroad. Biography Franchot was born in the town of Morris, Otsego County, New York, the son of French immigrant Paschal Franchot. He attended the public schools and the Hartwick and Cherry Valley Academies. He studied civil engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, in Troy, New York. He served for several years as president of the Albany and Susquehanna Railroad. Franchot was elected as a Republican to the Thirty-seventh Congress (March 4, 1861 – March 3, 1863). He was not a candidate for renomination in 1862. He moved to Schenectady, New York, and raised the 121st New York Infantry.
