Francesco Maria Bazzani
Francesco Maria Bazzani or Bassani (c. 1650 – c. 1700) was an Italian baroque composer. Francesco was a member of the musical Bassani family, of whom Giovanni Battista Bassani is the best remembered today. He is to be distinguished from another Francesco Maria Bassani two generations earlier ( fl. 1621), nephew of the viola da gamba composer Oratio Bassani, who kept a pedagogic notebook ''Regole di contrapunto'', which contains eight pieces, seven of which are probably by his uncle Oratio. He was maestro di cappella of the Duomo di Piacenza from 1673 Upon the death of his sister and her husband, a musician named Keller from Germany, Francesco adopted his nephew Fortunato Chelleri and trained him as a musician. Giovanni Battista Bassani
Giovanni Battista Bassani (c. 1650 – 1 October 1716) was an Italian composer, violinist, and organist. Biography Bassani was born in Padua. It is thought that he studied in Venice under Daniele Castrovillari and in Ferrara under Giovanni Legrenzi. Charles Burney and John Hawkins claimed he taught Arcangelo Corelli, but there is no solid evidence for this assertion. He was an organist at the Accademia della Morte in Ferrara from 1667, but had probably left by 1675. He published his first music in 1677; the title page calls him maestro of music at the ''Confraternità della Morte'' in Finale Emilia, not far from Modena. He was ''maestro di cappella'' at Duke Alessandro II della Mirandola's court in 1680, and was elected ''principe'' at the Accademica Filarmonica in Bologna. The viol (), viola da gamba (), or informally gamba, is any one of a family of bowed, fretted, and stringed instruments with hollow wooden bodies and pegboxes where the tension on the strings can be increased or decreased to adjust the pitch of each of the strings. Frets on the viol are usually made of gut, tied on the fingerboard around the instrument's neck, to enable the performer to stop the strings more cleanly. Piacenza Cathedral ( it, Duomo di Piacenza), fully the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta e Santa Giustina, is a Roman Catholic cathedral in Piacenza, Italy. The current structure was built between 1122 and 1233 and is one of the most valuable examples of a Romanesque cathedral in northern Italy. Fortunato Chelleri
Fortunato Chelleri (originally: Keller, also: Kelleri, Kellery, Cheler) (May or June 1690 in Parma – 11 December 1757 in Kassel) was a Baroque Kapellmeister and composer. Biography Chelleri's father had emigrated from Germany to Italy; his mother was from the Italian family of musicians Bazzani (or Bassani, see also Giovanni Battista Bassani). After the early death of his parents, he grew up with his uncle Francesco Maria Bazzani in Piacenza, who trained him as a musician. Chelleri started to compose operas for different opera companies in Northern Italy in 1708.
