Francesco Calì
Francesco Calì (; 16 May 1882 – 3 September 1949) was an Italian professional football player, coach and referee, who played as a defender. He captained the Italy national football team in their first ever match, on 15 May 1910. Early life Calì was born in Riposto, Sicily on 16 May 1882, to Bruno Calì, a wine merchant. After pirate assaults on his father's business, he and his family immigrated to Switzerland two years later; he was nicknamed Franz. Career Calì played several games as a left-back for Swiss clubs Zürich and Urania Genève Sport. He then played for two rival Genovese teams: Genoa and Andrea Doria. He was also a referee during his time at Andrea Doria. Riposto
Riposto ( scn, Ripostu) is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Catania area of southern Italy. The small seafront town is located about southeast of Palermo and about north of Catania. History Riposto is both historically and literally connected to Mascali, a once fiefdom of which it had been apart of as its commercial port in the 16th century and until it had finally gained local autonomy from in the 18th century. In the early 19th century, the town would be administratively merged with Giarre and become Giarre-Riposto by Fascist Italy. It was not until 1945 would the two towns be administratively divided once again, following the end of World War II. Geography The town is located on the Ionian Coast, and borders with the municipalities of Acireale, Giarre and Mascali.
