Frances Healy (archaeologist)
Frances M. A. Healy is a British archaeologist and prehistorian, specialising in the British Neolithic and lithic technology. She has worked for Norfolk Archaeological Unit, English Heritage, Wessex Archaeology, and Oxford Archaeology. She has been a research associate at Newcastle University and Cardiff University, where she has been an honorary research fellow since 2007. Healy studied internation relations at the London School of Economics and Political Science, graduating with an upper second class honours Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in 1965. She then undertook a postgraduate diploma in prehistoric archaeology at the Institute of Archaeology, University of London, which she completed in 1967. On a part-time basis she undertook research for a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree at the Institute of Archaeology, which she competed in 1990 with a thesis tiled "The neolithic in Norfolk". British Neolithic
The Neolithic British Isles refers to the period of British, Irish and Manx history that spanned 4000 to 2,500 BCE. The final part of the Stone Age in the British Isles, it was a part of the greater Neolithic, or "New Stone Age", across Europe. It was preceded by the Mesolithic and followed by the Bronze Age. During the Mesolithic period, the inhabitants of the British Isles had been hunter-gatherers. Around 4000 BCE, migrants began arriving from Central Europe. Although the earliest indisputably-acknowledged languages spoken in the British Isles belonged to the Celtic branch of the Indo-European family, it is not known what language the early farming people spoke. Roger Mercer
Roger James Mercer (12 September 1944 – 3 December 2018) was a British archaeologist whose work concentrated on the Neolithic and Bronze Age of the British Isles. Biography Between 1970 and 1973 he led the excavations at Carn Brea in Cornwall. and then went on to direct the excavations at Hambledon Hill and Grimes Graves, a Neolithic flint mine. An alumnus of the University of Edinburgh, graduating with MA Honours in Archaeology (1967), he became a lecturer there in 1974, was promoted to Reader in 1982 and was appointed Acting Head of Archaeology (1982–87). He was elected a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries in November 1977 and was an Honorary Fellow and past President of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland.
