Fourth Morgan Government
The fourth Morgan government (19 July 2007 – 10 December 2009) was a Labour–Plaid Cymru coalition government led by First Minister for Wales, Rhodri Morgan. After the collapse of coalition talks between Plaid Cymru, the Conservative Party The Conservative Party is a name used by many political parties around the world. The Welsh Government ( cy, Llywodraeth Cymru) is the Welsh devolution, devolved government of Wales. The government consists of ministers and Minister (government), deputy ministers, and also of a Counsel General for Wales, counsel general. Ministers only attend the Cabinet Meetings of the Welsh Government. It is led by the First Minister of Wales, first minister, usually the leader of the largest party in the Senedd (Welsh Parliament; ), who selects ministers and deputy ministers with the approval of the Senedd. Deputy First Minister For Wales
The deputy first minister of Wales ( cy, dirprwy brif weinidog Cymru) is the deputy leader of the Welsh Government. The post was created in October 2000 when Mike German of the Welsh Liberal Democrats was appointed Deputy First Minister as part of a coalition government with Welsh Labour. Since the office was created, the holder has been the party leader of the junior partner in coalition with Welsh Labour. The last holder was Ieuan Wyn Jones of Plaid Cymru who was also the minister for the Economy and Transport. Counsel General For Wales
The Counsel General for Wales is the Welsh Government's Law Officer (akin to the role of Attorney general in other jurisdictions using the Common law), which means the government's chief legal adviser and representative in the courts. In addition to these "lawyer" roles the Counsel General also works to uphold the rule of law and integrity of the legal community in Wales, and has a number of important specific statutory functions, some of which are to be exercised independently of government and in the public interest. The Counsel General is appointed by the sovereign on the recommendation of the First Minister of Wales. The recommendation of the First Minister to appoint or remove the Counsel General can only be made if approved by the Senedd. Brian Gibbons (politician)
Brian Gibbons (born 25 August 1950) is a medical doctor who was the Labour Party Assembly Member for Aberavon from May 1999 to May 2011. He served in the Welsh Government as Minister for Health and Social Services from 2005 to 2007, Minister for the Economy and Transport in 2007, and Minister for Social Justice and Local Government from 2007 to 2009. Born in Dublin, a son of the former Irish Fianna Fáil politician, Hugh Gibbons, he was raised in County Roscommon Ireland, and moved to Yorkshire in 1976 to train as a general medical practitioner in Calderdale. Elin Jones (born 1 September 1966) is a Welsh politician who has served as the Llywydd of the Senedd since 2016. A member of Plaid Cymru, Jones has been the Member of the Senedd (MS) for Ceredigion since 1999. Background Jones attended Llanwnnen Primary School and Lampeter Comprehensive. Alun Ffred Jones
Alun Ffred Jones (born 29 October 1949) is a Welsh politician and member of Plaid Cymru and former television producer, writer and director. Jones was the National Assembly for Wales Member for Caernarfon 2003–07 and for the newly created Arfon constituency from 2007 until he stood down in 2016. He served as Minister for Heritage between 2008 and 2011 as part of the One Wales Government. Rhodri Glyn Thomas
Rhodri Glyn Thomas (born 11 April 1953) is a Welsh politician. He was the Plaid Cymru National Assembly for Wales Member for Carmarthen East and Dinefwr from 1999 to 2016, when he did not re-stand for election. Following his retirement from the Assembly he was appointed President of the National Library of Wales. Education Thomas was born in Wrexham, Denbighshire. The Minister for Health and Social Services () is a cabinet position in the Welsh Government, currently held by Eluned Morgan MS.
