''Fourteen at the Table'' (Czech:''Čtrnáctý u stolu'') is a 1943 Czechoslovak crime comedy film directed by Oldřich Nový and Antonín Zelenka and starring Karel Höger, Ludvík Veverka and Helena Friedlová.Bock & Bergfelder p.353 It was made in German-occupied Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. The screenplay was based on a story by the retired German silent film actress Ossi Oswalda. The film's sets were designed by the art director Jan Zázvorka. Plot 13 guests meet at the home of Mayor Bartoš. They are disturbed by the number, so they hope and wait for another guest to appear. A 14th guest does arrive, with the coincidental surname of Čtrnáctý ("Fourteenth"). Young man Pavel Čtrnáctý is attracted to the mayor's daughter, Ema. He cannot resist and kisses her. Oldřich Nový
Oldřich Nový (7 August 1899, in Prague – 15 March 1983, in Prague) was a Czech film and theatre actor, director, composer, dramaturg and singer. He is considered one of the greatest actors of the Czech cinema in the first half of the 20th century. Biography His father Antonín Nový, a member of the Prague Fire Brigade, wanted him to become a typographer, but Oldřich showed passion for theatre from a young age. He was supported by his uncle Miloš Nový, a well-known actor of the National Theatre in Prague. František Filipovský (23 September 1907 – 26 October 1993) was a Czechoslovak stage, television, and film actor. Life and career Early life and theatre Filipovský was born on 23 September 1907 in the Czech town of Přelouč, then part of Austria-Hungary. His father was musician František Filipovský Sr., who was 62 by the time his son was born. The young Filipovský was interested in acting from an early age and began performing in theatre in the 1930s, with stints in Emil František Burian's Voice-band, as well as Osvobozené divadlo. Among other engagements, he worked as stage director in Jára Kohout's Divadlo U Nováků in 1939, later moving to Švandovo divadlo, and eventually holding a post at Prague's National Theatre. Zvonimir Rogoz
Zvonimir Rogoz (10 October 1887 – 6 February 1988) was a Croatian actor who played in German, Croatian, Slovenian, Czech and Slovakian, on stage and in cinema, during a career long 81 years. A native of Zagreb, Rogoz started his actor's career in Vienna in Wiener Theater. From 1919 to 1929 he was actor and director in Ljubljana. Rogoz became famous in Czechoslovakia as a guest in title roles when Ljubljana theater in 1927 played in Prague Shakespeare's ''Hamlet'' and Dostoevsky's ''Idiot''. Rogoz remained in engagement in National Theatre in Prague from 1929 till 1949. In the prewar period he appeared in many Czechoslovak films of the 1930s, including the 1933 erotic drama '' Ecstasy'', featuring young Hedy Lamarr. Raoul Marian Kristian Schránil (24 March 1910 – 20 September 1998) was a Czech film actor. Life Schránil was born in Most on 24 March 1910. His father Rudolf Schránil was a government secretary. His mother Alexandra Poláková was a singer. Shortly after his birth he moved to Vienna with his parents. During the World War I he was sent to live with his grandmother in Chotětov. After the war his family moved to Prague. His family friend was an opera singer Emmy Destinn. Schránil was expelled from high school in Prague and went to study in Germany and later in Dijon, France. He spoke Czech, French, German and English. After a recommendation from his cousin, a film director Karl Anton, he was hired in Vlasta Burian's theatre in 1935. Libuše Zemková
, Libussa, Libushe or, historically ''Lubossa'', is a legendary ancestor of the Přemyslid dynasty and the Czech people as a whole. According to legend, she was the youngest but wisest of three sisters, who became queen after their father died; she married a ploughman, Přemysl, with whom she founded the Přemyslid dynasty, and prophesied and founded the city of Prague in the 8th century. Legend Libuše is said to have been the youngest daughter of the equally mythical Czech ruler Krok. The legend goes that she was the wisest of the three sisters, and while her sister Kazi was a healer and Teta was a magician, she had the gift of seeing the future, and was chosen by her father as his successor, to judge over the people.
