Founders Ministries
Founders Ministries, previously known as the Southern Baptist Founders Conference, is a Reformed Baptist group within the Southern Baptist Convention in the United States. Its goal is to return Southern Baptists to their roots, and it has contributed to the Southern Baptist Convention conservative resurgence. The executive director is Thomas Ascol. The Southern Baptist Founders Conference was established in 1982, holding its first annual conference in 1983. The organization which developed was renamed Founders Ministries in 1998. As of 2007, there were 807 subscribing congregations in the United States. According to Nathan Finn, non-Calvinists within the Southern Baptist Convention "seem to be especially concerned with the influence of Founders Ministries." Critics argue that Southern Baptists have never been Calvinistic. Thomas Ascol
Thomas K. (Tom) Ascol is an evangelical Christian pastor, author, and president of Founders Ministries. He is currently the senior pastor of Grace Baptist Church in Cape Coral, Florida, where he has served for 36 years as of June 2022. Biography Tom Ascol has served as a pastor of Grace Baptist Church in Cape Coral, Florida since 1986. Prior to moving to Florida he served as a pastor and associate pastor of churches in Texas. He has a B.S. from Texas A&M University (1979) and has also earned the M.Div and Ph.D degrees from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas. Reformed Baptists (sometimes known as Particular Baptists or Calvinistic Baptists) are Baptists that hold to a Calvinist soteriology (salvation). The first Calvinist Baptist church was formed in the 1630s. The 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith was written along Calvinist Baptist lines. Southern Baptist Convention
The Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) is a Christian denomination based in the United States. It is the world's largest Baptist denomination, and the largest Protestant and second-largest Christian denomination in the United States. The word ''Southern'' in "Southern Baptist Convention" stems from its having been organized in 1845 in Augusta, Georgia, by white supremacist Baptists in the Southern United States who were supportive of enslaving Americans of African descent and split from the northern Baptists (known today as the American Baptist Churches USA). Baptist Press is a ministry assignment of the executive committee of the Southern Baptist Convention.
