Found Studio Tracks
''Found Studio Tracks'' is a compilation of session recordings made by Donald Fagen and Walter Becker prior to their formation of the band Steely Dan. Most were never released on a studio album, but six of them were later rerecorded for albums. Most of the recordings are of very low quality and are simply demos. The collection, or parts of it, was also released under numerous album names, such as ''Donald Fagan and Walter Becker of Steely Dan'', and ''Walter Becker / Donald Fagen - The Early Years''. The most complete collections are ''Android Warehouse'', and ''Catalyst: The Original Recordings 1968-71'' for a total of 28 or 29 songs (the latter adding an alternate version of one of them). Steely Dan
Steely Dan is an American rock band founded in 1971 in New York by Walter Becker (guitars, bass, backing vocals) and Donald Fagen (keyboards, lead vocals). Initially the band had a stable lineup, but in 1974, Becker and Fagen retired from live performances to become a studio-only band, opting to record with a revolving cast of session musicians. ''Rolling Stone'' has called them "the perfect musical antiheroes for the seventies". Jazz Rock
Jazz fusion (also known as fusion and progressive jazz) is a music genre that developed in the late 1960s when musicians combined jazz harmony and jazz improvisation, improvisation with rock music, funk, and rhythm and blues. Electric guitars, amplifiers, and keyboards that were popular in rock and roll started to be used by jazz musicians, particularly those who had grown up listening to rock and roll. Jazz fusion arrangements vary in complexity. Some employ groove-based vamps fixed to a single key or a single chord with a simple, repeated melody. The term studio recording means any recording made in a studio, as opposed to a live recording, which is usually made in a concert venue or a theatre, with an audience attending the performance. Donald Fagen
Donald Jay Fagen (born January 10, 1948) is an American musician best known as the co-founder, lead singer, co-songwriter, and keyboardist of the band Steely Dan, formed in the early 1970s with musical partner Walter Becker. In addition to his work with Steely Dan, Fagen has released four solo albums. He began his solo career in 1982 with the album ''The Nightfly'', which was nominated for seven Grammy Awards. In 2001, Fagen was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Steely Dan. Following Becker's death in 2017, Fagen has continued to tour as the only original member of Steely Dan. Walter Becker
Walter Carl Becker (February 20, 1950 – September 3, 2017) was an American musician, songwriter, and record producer. ''Katy Lied'' is the fourth studio album by American rock band Steely Dan, released in 1975 by ABC Records. It was certified gold and peaked at No. 13 on the US charts. The single "Black Friday" charted at No. 37. The album was the first after the disbandment of the original Steely Dan quintet; most of the original members had departed during a rift over touring and recording schedules. The Royal Scam
''The Royal Scam'' is the fifth studio album by American rock band Steely Dan. It was produced by Gary Katz and was originally released by ABC Records in 1976. ''The Royal Scam'' features more prominent guitar work than the prior Steely Dan album, ''Katy Lied'', which had been the first without founding guitarist Jeff Baxter. The Mock Turtle's Song
"The Mock Turtle's Song", also known as the "Lobster Quadrille", is a song recited by the Mock Turtle in Lewis Carroll's 1865 novel ''Alice's Adventures in Wonderland'', accompanied by a dance. It was taught to him at school by his teacher called Tortoise. Context "The Lobster Quadrille" is a song written by Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (Lewis Carroll). It is a parody of " The Spider and the Fly" by Mary Botham Howitt. It appeared in Chapter 10 of Carroll's book ''Alice's Adventures in Wonderland'', and was sung by a character in the book, the Mock Turtle. The poem is very similar to "The Spider and the Fly" in its rhyme scheme, meter, and tone.
