Fostoria Red Birds
The Fostoria Red Birds were a minor league baseball team based in Fostoria, Ohio from 1937 to 1941. First known as the Fostoria Cardinals in 1936, Fostoria teams played as exclusively as members of the Class D (baseball), Class D level Ohio State League and for their entire existence, the franchise played as a minor league affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals. Fostoria hosted minor league home games at Redbird Park. History The Fostoria Cardinals began minor league baseball play in 1936 as members of the six–team Class D (baseball), Class D level Ohio State League. The "Cardinals" moniker reflected the franchise as an affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals. Tony Lucadello
Anthony Lucadello (July 30, 1912 – May 8, 1989) was a professional baseball scout for the Chicago Cubs (1943–1957) and Philadelphia Phillies (1957–1989). During his career, he signed a total of 52 players who made it to the Major Leagues, most notably Hall of Famers Ferguson Jenkins and Mike Schmidt. His total number of Major League signings is considered to be unsurpassed, and some have called him perhaps the greatest scout ever. Early life Lucadello was born in Thurber, Texas to native Italian parents, but grew up in Chicago, Illinois, where his family moved so his father could work in the area's coal mines. John Lucadello (February 22, 1919 – October 30, 2001) was an American professional baseball player. Primarily a second baseman, he appeared in 239 Major League games for the St. Louis Browns (1938–1941; 1946) and New York Yankees (1947). The , native of Thurber, Texas, threw and batted right-handed. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was the brother of longtime MLB scout Tony Lucadello. Johnny Lucadello's pro career lasted from 1936–1955, with four seasons (1942–1945) missed because of his wartime service. Alfred Anthony LaMacchia (July 22, 1921 – September 15, 2010) was a professional baseball player and scout. He was a right-handed pitcher who spent 14 years in the minor leagues where he accumulated a record of 159–117 and spent parts of three seasons (1943, 1945–46) with the St. Louis Browns and Washington Senators compiling a 2–2 record.
