Fos Provence Basket
Fos Provence Basket, also known as Fos-sur-mer, is a professional basketball team based in Fos-sur-mer, France. The team currently plays in the first tier LNB Pro A, after its promotion in the 2020–21 season. Home games are played in the Complexe sportif Parsemain, which has a capacity of 2,000 people. History The club was founded on 13 January 1972 as Frat Fosséenne by its founders Paul Bruyère and Jean Lovato. On 18 January 2020, Fos received Saint-Quentin Basket-Ball at the Palais des Sports in Marseille and set its attendance record with 3,384 spectators. On 15 June 2018, Fos Provence promoted to the first-tier LNB Pro A for the first time in history, after defeating Roanne in the finals of the promotion play-offs. In the 2020–21 season, Provence won the Pro B championship again and was promoted. LNB Pro A
The LNB Pro A, currently known for sponsorship reasons as Betclic Élite, is the top-tier men's professional basketball league in France. The competition has existed since 1921. Since 1987, the Ligue Nationale de Basket has governed the league. The bottom two placed teams from each season are relegated to the second tier level Pro B. The winner of the play-offs of the Pro A is crowned the French national champion. Competition format All 16 Pro A League teams play each other twice during the regular season. At the end of the regular season, the top eight teams qualify for the playoffs. The two teams with the worst regular season records are relegated to the 2nd-tier Pro B. Through the 1985–86 season, the league championship was determined by a one-off final, or solely by league play. The French Basketball Cup, or French Basketball Federation Cup, (french: Coupe de France de Basket) is the annual national basketball federation cup competition of France. It is organized by the French Basketball Federation. It is also known as the Trophée Robert Busnel (Robert Busnel Trophy), named after the late basketball player Robert Busnel, who died in 1991. Jarvis Varnado
Jarvis Lamar Varnado (born March 1, 1988) is an American professional basketball player for Club Atlético Aguada of the Liga Uruguaya de Básquetbol. Varnado is known as a defensive specialist and is especially adept at shot blocking where he's aided by his large wingspan. Early life Varnado graduated from Haywood High School in Brownsville, Tennessee in 2006. Ronald Lewis (born July 27, 1984) is an American professional basketball player for SLUC Nancy Basket of France's LNB Pro B and formerly for The Ohio State University Buckeyes and the Bowling Green Falcons. College career Lewis finished his collegiate career having scored 1,560 points, collected 497 rebounds, and dished out 248 assists. Lee Cummard
Lee Cummard (born March 31, 1985) is a former American college basketball player and current BYU basketball assistant coach. Lee Cummard was a standout guard at Brigham Young University from 2005 to 2009, appearing in all 131 games BYU played during his four seasons in Provo. Cummard went undrafted in the 2009 NBA draft and after a brief stint with the NBA D-League played professional overseas in France, Japan and Belgium. From 2012–2016 season, he was a starter for the Okapi Aalstar in Belgium, helping his club to the Belgium Cup semifinals four times and finishing as runner-up in 2013. In 2016 he joined the coaching staff at BYU as a graduate assistant. In 2018, he was hired as an assistant coach at BYU. David Huertas (born June 2, 1987) is a Puerto Rican professional basketball player for Capitanes de Arecibo of the BSN. He also represents the Puerto Rican national team. College career Huertas committed to play NCAA basketball for the Florida Gators after leading his high school, Arlington Country Day in Jacksonville, Florida, to a state championship in his senior year. Fos-sur-Mer (, literally ''Fos on Sea''; Provençal: ''Fòs'') is a commune in the Bouches-du-Rhône department in southern France. Geography Fos-sur-Mer is situated about north west of Marseille, on the Mediterranean coast, and to the west of the Étang de Berre. The city has of sand beach. Population Economy Fos is the site of a major port development operated by the Autonomous Port of Marseille. The facilities include container handling terminals and a gas (methane) terminal. Tariq Kinte Kirksay (born September 7, 1979) is a French American professional basketball player for Fos Provence Basket of the French LNB Pro A. He was born in the Bronx, New York, where he grew up. High school Kirksay played basketball at Rice High School, in New York City, New York. College Kirksay played college basketball at Iona College, with the Iona Gaels, from 1996 to 2000.
