Forward Operating Base Fenty
Forward Operating Base (FOB) Fenty was a military base built around Jalalabad Airport. Namesake The base was named after Lt. Col. Joseph J. Fenty Jr. LTC Fenty received his commission for the University of North Carolina- Charlotte ROTC program in 1986 as an Infantry Lieutenant. LTC Fenty was a founding member and first commanding officer of 3rd Squadron, 71st Cavalry (Recon) building the organization from the ground up. He took command 16 September 2004, trained the unit, and led the Titans on their first deployment to Afghanistan, in support of OEF VII. On 5 May 2006, nearing the end of Operation Mountain Lion, LTC Fenty personally oversaw a high-risk night extraction of one of his Cavalry scout teams located high in the mountains above Chalas Valley. Combat Aviation Brigade, 1st Armored Division
Combat (French for ''fight'') is a purposeful violent conflict meant to physically harm or kill the opposition. Combat may be armed (using weapons) or unarmed ( not using weapons). Combat Aviation Brigade, 101st Airborne Division
The Combat Aviation Brigade, 101st Airborne Division is a Combat Aviation Brigade (CAB) of the United States Army. It was first organized in July 1968 as an aviation group and stands as the most decorated aviation unit in the United States Army. It was redesignated an aviation brigade in 1986. It has served in almost every single military operation (combat, peacekeeping, and humanitarian) since the Vietnam War. In support of the Global War on Terror, the CAB has distinguished itself as the military's premiere combat aviation unit during its two deployments to Iraq (2003 and 2005) and five deployments to Afghanistan (2002, 2007, 2010, 2012, and 2015). 159th Combat Aviation Brigade
The 159th Combat Aviation Brigade (CAB) formerly supported the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), and was stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. While active, 159th CAB made the 101st Airborne Division the only US Army Division with two organic aviation brigades, and currently the 101st CAB is the only CAB supporting the unit at Fort Campbell. The 17th Cavalry Regiment is a historical organization within the United States Army that began as a regiment of cavalry after the Pancho Villa Expedition. The unit was constituted on 1 July 1916 in the Regular Army (United States), Regular Army as the 17th Cavalry at Fort Bliss, Texas and originally inactivated 26 September 1921 at the Presidio of Monterey, California. The 6th Cavalry ("Fighting Sixth'") is a regiment of the United States Army that began as a regiment of cavalry in the American Civil War. It currently is organized into aviation squadrons that are assigned to several different combat aviation brigades. The 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division is an inactive brigade of the United States Army. Between 1975 and 1984, the brigade served at Fort Carson, CO, and in Germany. The brigade was reactivated in 2004, and deployed four times in support of the War on Terror, once to Iraq and three times to Afghanistan, before being inactivated in 2015. History Cold War The Brigade was first activated in December 1975 as "Brigade 76", a mechanized infantry brigade to reinforce Army forces in Europe under the 1974 Nunn Amendment. The Brigade deployed to Wiesbaden, West Germany between March and June 1976. Originally designed as rotational forces, the Brigade was reassigned to Europe permanently in late 1976, when expected cost savings from the use of rotational forces failed to materialize.
