Forward Music
Forward Music is a Lebanon based independent record label specializing in World Music. History Forward Music was established in 2001 by Ghazi Abdel Baki as a music label that pools together the cooperative efforts of young artists from the Middle East. It aims to encourage new and creative trends in the musical arts, blending the various cultural currents that meet and interact in new fusions and fresh perspectives. It hopes to draw on the rich musical past of the Arab world and the array of contemporary influences to find new musical dialects. Forward Music is committed to making an authentic contribution to our ever-changing culture and to the growing global dialogue of World Music. Today, Forward Music is a leading independent label that produces and distributes the work of several respected musicians and singers in the Middle East. Lebanon
Lebanon ( , ar, لُبْنَان, translit=lubnān, ), officially the Republic of Lebanon () or the Lebanese Republic, is a country in Western Asia. Ilham Al-Madfai
Ilham al-Madfai ( ar, إلهام المدفعي) (born 1942) is an Iraqi guitarist, singer and composer. al-Madfai's synthesis of Western guitar stylings with traditional Iraqi music has made him a popular performer in his native country and throughout the Middle East. Beginning in 1999, al-Madfai released a string of albums on EMI's label, including his platinum eponymous debut, ''Ilham al-Madfai'' (1999), ''Live at the Hard Rock Cafe'' (2001), ''Baghdad'' (2003) and ''The Voice of Iraq: The Best of Ilham al-Madfai'' (2005). Mustafa Said (مصطفى سعيد) is an Egyptian singer, musicologist, composer and a virtuoso Oud player. He has been living in Beirut since 2004. He is one of the few young talents to devote his career to the classical Arabic repertoire while exploring new forms and new sounds. Lena Chamamyan
Lena Chamamyan ( ar, لينا شماميان, hy, Լենա Շամամեան; born 27 June 1980) is a Syrian-Armenian singer-songwriter known for her soprano voice and unique style, which fuses jazz, Middle Eastern folk music and Western classical music. Personal life Lena was born in Damascus to Artine Chamamyan, an Armenian Catholic from Aleppo with roots from Marash, and Ghada, a Syriac woman originally from Mardin. Her paternal great-grandfather, Sarkis Chamamyan, was a calligrapher, originally from Marash, Cilicia. She has said that his education and skills saved him and his family during the Armenian genocide, as the Ottoman army made use of his skills to write military communiqués and his life was spared. Joey DeFrancesco (April 10, 1971August 25, 2022) was an American jazz organist, trumpeter, saxophonist, and occasional singer. The Herbaliser
The Herbaliser is an English jazz hip hop group formed by Jake Wherry and Ollie Teeba in London, England during the early 1990s. Although currently releasing on their own label and having previously been signed to !K7 Records, they were one of the best-known acts from the Ninja Tune independent record label. They have released 12 albums, including two DJ mixes: one for Ninja Tune's Solid Steel series and the other for Fabric's Live Mix series. The Herbaliser's album ''Same As It Never Was'' was their first release on !K7 Records. Their latest album ''Bring Out The Sound'' was released in 2018, on the BBE label.
