Fortunato Duranti
Fortunato Duranti (25 September 1787 – 7 February 1863) was an Italian painter and collector. Biography Duranti was born at Montefortino, in what are now the Marche, then part of the Papal States. His father was a shoemaker of limited means. In 1807, he traveled to Rome to study under the patronage of Cardinal Bernardino Honorati in the school of Domenico Conti Bazzani, who had trained with Giuseppe Bazzani and Pompeo Batoni. In Rome he befriended Nicola Consoni, the director of the Academy of Saint Luke, and Tommaso Minardi, the pre-eminent Italian Neoclassic painter in Rome. He was influenced by Vincenzo Camuccini, Pelagio Palagi, Felice Giani, and Bartolomeo Pinelli. When the cardinal Honorati died, he became an antiquarian. On a planned trip to Germany in 1815, he was arrested and his works confiscated. Fermo
Fermo (ancient: Firmum Picenum) is a town and ''comune'' of the Marche, Italy, in the Province of Fermo. Fermo is on a hill, the Sabulo, elevation , on a branch from Porto San Giorgio on the Adriatic coast railway. History The oldest human remains from the area are funerary remains from the 9th–8th centuries BC, belonging to the Villanovan culture or the proto-Etruscan civilization. The ancient Firmum Picenum was founded as a Latin colony, consisting of 6000 men, in 264 BC, after the conquest of the Picentes, as the local headquarters of the Roman power, to which it remained faithful. It was originally governed by five quaestors. It was made a colony with full rights after the battle of Philippi, the 4th Legion being settled there. It lay at the junction of roads to Pausulae, Urbs Salvia, and Asculum, connected to the coast road by a short branch road from Castellum Firmanum (Porto S. Giorgio). Carlo Dolci
Carlo (or Carlino) Dolci (25 May 1616 – 17 January 1686) was an Italian painter of the Baroque period, active mainly in Florence, known for highly finished religious pictures, often repeated in many versions. Biography He was born in Florence, on his mother's side the grandson of a painter. He was precocious and apprenticed at a young age to Jacopo Vignali, and when only eleven years of age he attempted a whole figure of St John, and a head of the infant Christ, which received some approbation. However Dolci was not prolific. "He would take weeks over a single foot", according to his biographer Baldinucci. His painstaking technique made him unsuited for large-scale fresco painting. He painted chiefly sacred subjects, and his works are generally small in scale, although he made a few life-size pictures.
