Camp Sheridan (Nebraska)
Camp Sheridan was established originally as the Post at Spotted Tail Indian Agency, near the Spotted Tail Agency in northwestern Nebraska in March 1874. In 1875, the garrison moved into permanent structures on the west fork of Beaver Creek, 12 miles upstream from the White River, near Hay Springs, Nebraska. The garrison, sometimes called Fort Sheridan, was abandoned seven years later in May 1881. Fort Logan
Fort Logan was a military installation located eight miles southwest of Denver, Colorado. It was established in October 1887, when the first soldiers camped on the land, and lasted until 1946, when it was closed following the end of World War II. After the fort closed the site was used as a mental health center and part of the land was set aside for the Fort Logan National Cemetery. History Toward the end of the 19th century, conflicts between Native Americans and expanding American interests were becoming less common. The United States Army began looking to cut costs by closing isolated frontier forts and start using the railroads to transport troops and supplies. In 1886, prominent Denver citizens, looking to boost the local economy, raised money and donated land to bring an Army fort to the area. Lake County Forest Preserves (also called Lake County Forest Preserve District, or LCFPD) is a governmental organization that purchases land and oversees the use of such public open-space in Lake County, Illinois. It is a member of Chicago Wilderness. The board of directors is also the board of Lake County. The directors are voted into office, and represent their respective districts in Lake County. Fort Sheridan Historic District
The Philip H. Sheridan Reserve Center is the former Fort Sheridan now in Lake Forest, Highwood, and Highland Park in Lake County, Illinois, United States. It was originally established as a United States Army Post named after Civil War Cavalry General Philip Sheridan, to honor his services to Chicago. When the main fort was officially closed by the Army on May 3, 1993, the majority of the property was sold by the Department of Defense to commercial land developers. Most of the original housing structures were then refurbished and resold as a residential community. Other buildings were given to cultural organizations like Midwest Young Artists, the largest youth music program in the Midwest. Approximately of the southern end of the original post were retained by the Army; there the Army now operates the Sheridan Reserve Center complex. Fort Sheridan Station is one of two stations on Metra's Union Pacific North Line located in the Fort Sheridan neighborhood in Highwood, Illinois. The station is officially located at 461 West Old Elm Road, and is away from Ogilvie Transportation Center, the southern terminus of the Union Pacific North Line. In Metra's zone-based fare system, Fort Sheridan is located in zone F. As of 2018, Fort Sheridan is the 156th busiest of Metra's 236 non-downtown stations, with an average of 259 weekday boardings. As of April 25, 2022, Fort Sheridan is served by 46 trains (23 in each direction) on weekdays, by 22 trains (11 in each direction) on Saturdays, and by 16 trains (eight in each direction) on Sundays and holidays.
