Fort Frontenac Library
The Fort Frontenac Library, located within the Canadian Land Forces Command and Staff College, Fort Frontenac, Kingston, Ontario, is the main research library for the Canadian Army. Established in 1947 this library is one of the oldest collections of volumes, monographs, documents, and artifacts dedicated to the study of conflict and land warfare in the Canadian context. The Fort Frontenac Library assists the army's advanced officer development programs as well as its research and development communities across the country. The current Chief Librarian is Mr. David Willis. Origins Created in 1947, the Canadian Army Staff College (CASC) library was designed to function separately from the Royal Military College of Canada Library, with which it was initially colocated on the college grounds. Kingston, Ontario
Kingston is a city in Ontario, Canada. It is located on the north-eastern end of Lake Ontario, at the beginning of the St. Lawrence River and at the mouth of the Cataraqui River (south end of the Rideau Canal). The city is midway between Toronto, Ontario and Montreal, Quebec. Kingston is also located nearby the Thousand Islands, a tourist region to the east, and the Prince Edward County tourist region to the west. Kingston is nicknamed the "Limestone City" because of the many heritage buildings constructed using local limestone. Growing European exploration in the 17th century, and the desire for the Europeans to establish a presence close to local Native occupants to control trade, led to the founding of a French trading post and military fort at a site known as "Cataraqui" (generally pronounced /kætə'ɹɑkweɪ/, "kah-tah-ROCK-way") in 1673. Andrew Godefroy
Andrew Godefroy CD, M.A., Ph.D. is a Canadian strategic analyst and science and technology historian. Scholarship Andrew Godefroy was born in Montreal, Quebec and attended Concordia University where he studied Canadian military history. His undergraduate thesis was a study of executions of Canadian soldiers for military crimes in the First World War. He completed a Master's degree and a Ph.D. in War Studies at the Royal Military College of Canada. His graduate and post-graduate studies focused on aerospace history and the Canadian rocketry and space program. Godefroy held the Canadian Visiting Research Fellowship in thChanging Character of Warfare Programat the University of Oxford in 2009. His research focused on change in the British, American, and Canadian armies since the Cold War period.
