Sharp Nemesis
The Sharp DR 90 Nemesis is a Formula One Air Racing, Formula One racing aircraft designed by Jon Sharp and built at the Mojave Airport by the Nemesis Air Racing Team. The aircraft is powered by a modified Continental O-200 piston engine. The Nemesis originated as an attempt by Jon Sharp to build a Condor Shoestring, ''Shoestring'' racer, with composite skins over a steel frame. Along the way, Dan Bond convinced him to use an airfoil with extensive laminar flow and finally, Steve Ericson helped Jon design a sleeker, all composite airframe. The Rollason Beta was a British midget racing monoplane developed from a competition to build a Formula One air racer in the 1960s in England.Jackson 1988, p.288 The Beta was first flown on 21 April 1967. The aircraft were successful air-racers in England during the late 1960s and early 1970s. The Cassutt Special is a single-seat sport and racing aircraft designed in the United States in 1951 for Formula One air races. Plans are still available for homebuilding. Designed by ex-TWA captain Tom Cassutt, it is a mid-wing cantilever monoplane with fixed tailwheel undercarriage. The fuselage and tail are of fabric-covered steel tube construction, and the wings are built from plywood over wooden ribs. The Howard DGA-3 "Pete", a.k.a. "Damned Good Airplane – 3", "Baker Special", and "Little Audrey" was the third aircraft built by Ben Howard, and the first in a series of racing aircraft. Howard claimed that the aircraft was so fast from his use of "Go Grease". Design and development The DGA-3 was started as a side project based on getting the best performing aircraft using a Wright Gipsy engine Howard had available.
