''Formosa'' is a 2005 feature comedy directed by Noah Kadner, written by Jamieson Stern, and Produced by Anita M. Cal. The movie starred Geoffrey Lewis and Steven Gilborn. It was filmed in Albuquerque, New Mexico and was distributed internationally on cable. It won the Jury Award for Best Movie at the 2005 Garden State Film Festival and was feature at the Sedona Film Festival in Arizona. Plot summary Albuquerque, New Mexico, 1951. Sid Silver (Steven Gilborn) has a problem: his social guidance films aren't working anymore. The teens of the '50s are going crazy buck wild and Sid can no longer reach them. Clay Crawford (Jamieson Stern) also has a problem. He's on the run from the law and trying to make it to California to find a man who may be his father. Laura and L. D. Nelson were an African-American mother and son who were lynched on May 25, 1911, near Okemah, Okfuskee County, Oklahoma.. They had been seized from their cells in the Okemah county jail the night before by a group of up to 40 white men, reportedly including Charley Guthrie, father of the folk singer Woody Guthrie. The Associated Press reported that Laura was raped. She and L. D. were then hanged from a bridge over the North Canadian River. Garden State Film Festival
The Garden State Film Festival is a film festival in the United States held in Asbury Park, New Jersey which debuts more than 200 independent films annually over four days each spring. The festival was founded in 2002 in Sea Girt, New Jersey by Diane Raver and Hollywood actor Robert Pastorelli. Pastorelli and Raver mounted the first festival in 2003. As of 2021, the Executive Director is Lauren Concar Sheehy. The festival pays tribute to Jersey’s legacy as the birthplace of the American filmmaking in Thomas Edison’s Menlo Park laboratories, to Fort Lee, where the studios were founded, and participants frequently include a New Jersey tie. The festival is one of Asbury Park's major cultural and economic forces.   In 2021, the festival began including screenings at the century-old Cranford movie theater in Cranford, New Jersey.
