Forestburg, Alberta
Forestburg is a village located in east-central Alberta, Canada. The rich farmland of the area was first settled in 1905. Soon after the first of many "gopher hole" mines, homesteaders were soon coal mining on the banks of the Battle River in 1907. Forestburg's economy is based on agriculture, coal mining, oil and gas activity, and power generation. With approximately 75 businesses, the rate of employment is good. Forestburg has a good variety of retail and services, with major employment by Atco Power Ltd. and Westmoreland Coal. A village is an urban municipality status type used in the Canadian province of Alberta. Alberta villages are created when communities with populations of at least 300 people, where a majority of their buildings are on parcels of land smaller than 1,850 m2, apply to Alberta Municipal Affairs for village status under the authority of the ''Municipal Government Act''. Applications for village status are approved via orders in council made by the Lieutenant Governor in Council under recommendation from the Minister of Municipal Affairs. Galahad is a hamlet in east-central Alberta, Canada within Flagstaff County. It is located just a few miles north of the Battle River valley on a former Canadian National rail line. Amisk, Alberta
Amisk () is a village in east central Alberta, Canada. The name comes from (), the Cree word for " beaver". The site was surveyed by the Canadian Pacific Railway in 1906. That same year settlers from the United States, Scandinavia and Great Britain arrived. The first general store was built in 1907, and the school went up in 1916. Amisk boasts the oldest registered public library in rural Alberta. Strome is a hamlet in east-central Alberta, Canada, within Flagstaff County. It is located on Highway 13, approximately east of the City of Camrose. The hamlet was originally incorporated as a village on February 3, 1910. It dissolved to become a hamlet under the jurisdiction of Flagstaff County on January 1, 2016. Strome's name is believed to come from Stromeferry in Ross & Cromarty, Scotland. History Strome began developing as a farming community in 1905. Max Knoll opened the first post office, under the name of Knollton, and set up the first general store. The name of the post office was changed to Strome on July 1, 1906. Evan Oberg
Evan Oberg (born February 16, 1988) is a Canadian retired ice hockey defenceman. He played 7 games in the National Hockey League with the Vancouver Canucks and Tampa Bay Lightning between 2010 and 2012. The rest of his career, which lasted from 2009 to 2019, was mainly spent in the minor American Hockey League, though he also spent one season in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga. Alberta has provincial legislation allowing its municipalities to conduct municipal censuses between April 1 and June 30 inclusive. The 2021 Canadian census was a detailed enumeration of the Canadian population with a reference date of May 11, 2021. It follows the 2016 Canadian census, which recorded a population of 35,151,728.
