Forest Town, Nottinghamshire
Forest Town is a former mining village on the outskirts of Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, England. After continuous development it is no longer a separate entity, nowadays being simply an area within Mansfield. An old part of Forest Town known as ''The Avenues'' is the high-density housing built as homes for the workers from the nearby ''Crown Farm Colliery'' (also known as 'Mansfield Colliery'), once a major employer. After closure of the coal mine in early 1988, the site has gradually been transformed to accommodate manufacturing in a variety of units on an industrial estate. A nearby development was the fabric manufacturing factory built on ''heathland'' by the Japanese organisation Toray. This occurred amidst much publicity – with Toray stating during local recruitment in three phases, 1992–93 that their mission was to become Mansfield's finest Corporate Citizen. Mansfield (district)
Mansfield District is a local government district in Nottinghamshire, England. Its council is based in the town of Mansfield. The district is bounded by the districts of Ashfield, Newark and Sherwood and Gedling, as well as the Derbyshire districts of Bolsover and North East Derbyshire. It is also part of the Mansfield urban area. History The district was formed on 1 April 1974, under the Local Government Act 1972, by the merger of the Municipal Borough of Mansfield with Mansfield Woodhouse Urban District and Warsop Urban District. Geography As well as the town of Mansfield, settlements in the district include Mansfield Woodhouse, Forest Town and parts of Pleasley, with Warsop and Meden Vale distanced and annexed by open countryside. Samworth Church Academy
The Samworth Church Academy is a coeducational secondary school and sixth form with academy status, located in Mansfield in the English county of Nottinghamshire. History The school was established as "The Mansfield Secondary Technical School", which opened in 1945. It was housed in Nissen huts left over by a U.S. Army Hospital after the end of World War II on the outskirts of Mansfield, occupying the same site used by the current King's Mill Hospital. The school moved to new premises on the opposite side of Mansfield in 1957, becoming known as "Sherwood Hall Secondary School". In 1958 "The Sherwood Hall School for Girls" was opened, later known as Sherwood Hall Technical School for Girls. Sherwood Hall Technical Grammar School For Boys moved to the site in 1961. A nationwide census, known as Census 2001, was conducted in the United Kingdom on Sunday, 29 April 2001. This was the 20th UK census and recorded a resident population of 58,789,194. The 2001 UK census was organised by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) in England and Wales, the General Register Office for Scotland (GROS) and the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA). Detailed results by region, council area, ward and output area are available from their respective websites. Murders Of William And Patricia Wycherley
At some point over the Early May bank holiday weekend in 1998, William and Patricia Wycherley were shot and killed in their home in a suburb of Mansfield, England, by their daughter Susan and her husband, Christopher Edwards. The Edwardses then buried the bodies in the garden behind the house and went on to use the Wycherleys' identities to commit various acts of fraud intended to fund their hobby of collecting expensive Hollywood memorabilia. The crime went undiscovered until 2012, when Christopher contacted his stepmother to ask for money and confessed. At this point the Edwards were living in Lille, France, having moved there when the UK's Department for Work and Pensions requested an interview with William Wycherley to assess his needs, as he would have been approaching his 100th birthday. They eventually agreed to surrender themselves to police at St Pancras railway station in October 2013 after travelling back to the UK. The couple were found guilty of murder in June 2014 ...
