Forest Park Parkway (St. Louis)
Forest Park Parkway is a parkway in Clayton, Missouri and St. Louis that runs from Interstate 170, becomes Forest Park Avenue at Kingshighway Boulevard, and ends at Market Street and Interstate 64. It is considered an arterial snow route. Its right-of-way has carried various railroad lines throughout much of its history. History The corridor began life in the 19th century as a heavy rail line used by the Rock Island and Wabash railroads along with local streetcars. The segment between the Terminal Railroad's Central Belt Subdivision (near present day Interstate 170) and Forsyth Junction (now the junction of MetroLink's Red and Blue lines) was abandoned by the Rock Island in 1931. Prior to its abandonment, the railroad operated a passenger depot at Clayton, near the spot of today's MetroLink station. Normandy, Missouri
Normandy is a city in St. Louis County, Missouri, United States. The population was 4,287 at the 2020 census. History The city of Normandy is on land once owned by Charles Lucas. Lucas obtained property from the federal government with land grants, and he purchased the land from victims of the New Madrid earthquake of 1811. He named it for the French coastal region of Normandy from which his father John Baptiste Charles Lucas came. The site of his home is now on the property of Incarnate Word Academy. Lucas was to fight two duels on Bloody Island with Thomas Hart Benton, and died in the 1817 duel. Upon Charles death, and that of his father, Federal Land Grant Judge J.B.C. Lucas, his land was left to his sister Anne and brother James. Anne married Capt. Theodore Hunt, Son of the Patriot Abraham Hunt of Trenton, N.J., who died in 1832. Delmar Loop
The Delmar Loop, often referred to by St. Louis residents simply as The Loop, is an entertainment, cultural and restaurant district in University City, Missouri and the adjoining western edge of St. Louis near Washington University in St. Louis and Forest Park. Many of its attractions are located in the streetcar suburb of University City, but the area is expanding eastward into the Skinker DeBaliviere neighborhood of the City of St. Louis. In 2007, the American Planning Association named the Delmar Loop "One of the 10 Great Streets in America." The Muny
The St. Louis Municipal Opera Theatre (commonly known as The Muny) is an amphitheater located in St. Louis, Missouri. The theatre seats 11,000 people with about 1,500 free seats in the last nine rows that are available on a first come, first served basis. The Muny seasons run every year from mid-June to mid-August. Loop Trolley
The Loop Trolley is a , 10-station heritage streetcar line in and near the Delmar Loop area of greater St. Louis, Missouri. It opened for service in 2018, then shut down in 2019 after revenue fell far short of projections. Service resumed in 2022 under the Metro Transit division of the Bi-State Development agency. The tracks start in St. Louis proper at the Missouri History Museum in Forest Park. Forest Park–DeBaliviere Station
Forest Park–DeBaliviere station is a St. Louis MetroLink station. It is located at the northeast corner of Forest Park Parkway and DeBaliviere Avenue in St. Louis, Missouri and is designated as the primary transfer point for riders between the Red and Blue lines. History The station opened on July 31, 1993, as one of the original stations in the MetroLink system. It was originally constructed with side platforms and a single entrance serving the westbound platform. Access to the eastbound platform required walking the length of the westbound platform and crossing the tracks at the end. I-64 (MO)
Interstate 64 (I-64) passes through the Greater St. Louis area in the US state of Missouri. The entire route overlaps U.S. Route 40 (US 40). Because the road was a main thoroughfare in the St. Louis area before the development of the Interstate Highway System, it is not uncommon for locals to refer to the stretch of highway as "Highway 40" rather than "I-64". On December 6, 2009, the portion of the highway running through the city of St. Louis was named the Jack Buck Memorial Highway in honor of the late sportscaster.
