''Forecast'' is a compilation album by the English electronic music group 808 State, released on 25 May 1993 by ZTT Records, exclusively in Japan. The album contains a collection of A-side and B-side, B-sides and remixes from the ''Gorgeous (808 State album), Gorgeous'' era. Critical reception The ''Calgary Herald'' wrote that "the beats-per-minute do not lash the body like industrial or heavy-duty techno and elements of New Age infiltrate its club world of synthesizer-driven music." 808 State
808 State are an English electronic music group formed in 1987 in Manchester, taking their name from the Roland TR-808 drum machine. They were formed by Graham Massey, Martin Price and Gerald Simpson. They released their debut album, '' Newbuild'', in September 1988 and secured commercial success in 1989, when their song " Pacific State" was picked up by BBC Radio 1 DJ Gary Davies and charted for 11 weeks in the UK. The group's early work was a prominent influence on the UK's burgeoning acid house scene. AllMusic called them "one of the most important dance music acts of all time," and noted their influence on subsequent techno, IDM, and alternative dance artists. ZTT Records
ZTT Records is a British record label founded in 1983 by record producer Trevor Horn, Horn's wife and businesswoman Jill Sinclair, and ''New Musical Express'' (NME) journalist Paul Morley. The label's name was also stylised as ZANG TUMB TUUM and ZANG TUUM TUMB on various releases. In December 2017, Universal Music Group (UMG) acquired ZTT Records, along with Stiff Records. The ZTT and Stiff back catalogues were licensed to BMG Rights Management under Union Square Music until 2022, when Universal relaunched the label. History ZTT is an initialism of Filippo Tommaso Marinetti's sound poem ''Zang Tumb Tumb'', which described 'zang tumb tumb' as the sound of a machine gun. It is believed that they likely got the idea for the name via John McGeoch, who produced the Swedish pop-funk band Zzzang Tumb's eponymous 1983 album around the same time as the label was founded. ''Gorgeous'' is the fourth studio album by the English electronic music group 808 State. It was released on 1 February 1993 by ZTT Records in the UK and Tommy Boy Records in the US. In October 2008, the album was reissued on ZTT Records and an additional bonus disc, containing 14 remixed tracks, including an unreleased edit of the song "Bombadin". The album peaked at No. 35 on ''Billboards Top Heatseekers albums chart. It peaked at No. 17 on the UK Album Charts. It is their first album to not feature founding member Martin Price, who left the group in October 1991 to perform solo production work, eventually forming his own label, Sun Text. Critical reception '' Select'' gave the album a three out of five rating, stating that it is "never more nor less than 'interesting'" and concluding that "the weaknesses of over-familiarity are fully apparent" and "too often leaves you wanting more". The A-side and B-side are the two sides of phonograph records and cassettes; these terms have often been printed on the labels of two-sided music recordings. The A-side usually features a recording that its artist, producer, or record company intends to be the initial focus of promotional efforts and radio airplay and hopefully become a hit record. The B-side (or "flip-side") is a secondary recording that typically receives less attention, although some B-sides have been as successful as, or more so than, their A-sides. Use of this language has largely declined in the 21st century as the music industry has transitioned away from analog recordings towards digital formats without physical sides, such as CDs, downloads and streaming. Colin Larkin (born 1949) is a British writer and entrepreneur. He founded, and was the editor-in-chief of, the ''Encyclopedia of Popular Music'', described by ''The Times'' as "the standard against which all others must be judged". Along with the ten-volume encyclopedia, Larkin also wrote the book ''All Time Top 1000 Albums'', and edited the ''Guinness Who's Who of Jazz'', the ''Guinness Who's Who of Blues'', and the ''Virgin Encyclopedia Of Heavy Rock''.
