Ford M. Fraker
Ford M. Fraker (1948 – September 4, 2017) was a and American diplomat who served as U.S. Ambassador to Saudi Arabia.He was president of the Middle East Policy Council and chairman, Merrill Lynch Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Career highlights Prior to his nomination, Fraker was serving as chairman of the Trinity Group Limited, a private investment banking firm in the United Kingdom, and as consultant for Intercontinental Real Estate Corporation in Boston. Fraker graduated cum laude from Harvard University in 1971 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He has served as a banker in the Middle East for more than thirty years. He began his career with Chemical Bank, where he worked from 1972 to 1979. He worked in Lebanon, the UAE, and Bahrain, ending as a vice president and Regional Manager for the bank's Bahrain office. James Oberwetter
James C. Oberwetter (born November 3, 1944) is the former U.S. Ambassador to Saudi Arabia. Career He previously served as Press Secretary for then-congressman George H. W. Bush (who later became Vice-President and President of the United States). He has also been the special assistant to the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency and a member of the American Petroleum Institute’s Communications Committee. Prior to his diplomatic service, Oberwetter served as Senior Vice President of Hunt Oil Company, of Dallas, Texas where he directed the company's public affairs and government relations functions. The United States recognized the government of King Ibn Saud in 1931, but it was not until 1939 when it appointed its first U.S. ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Bert Fish, then resident in Cairo and ambassador to Egypt. Fish made one trip down to Jeddah in 1940 to meet the King and present his credentials, but it was not until after his mission was terminated that a legation was established there on May 1, 1942. The position was most recently occupied by John Abizaid from June 16, 2019 to January 20, 2021. He presented his credentials to King Salman on June 16, 2019.
