Ford Greene
Aylsworth Crawford Greene III (born December 21, 1952) – sometimes called Ford Greene – is an American attorney, political leader and three-time Mayor of San Anselmo, California. Greene is noted for having successfully conducted litigation against the Church of Scientology and the Unification Church of the United States. He is also a deprogrammer. Greene is serving his fourth-term as an elected San Anselmo town council member. He was voted to the position of Mayor in 2010, 2015, and 2019. Litigating against Scientology Greene has represented a number of clients against the Church of Scientology. In ''Wollersheim v. Church of Scientology of California'', he was part of a team that represented former Scientologist Lawrence Wollersheim and successfully sued for emotional distress. The Office of Special Affairs (OSA), formerly the Guardian's Office, is a department of the Church of Scientology International. According to the Church, the OSA is responsible for directing legal affairs, public relations, pursuing investigations, publicizing the Church's "social betterment works," and "overseeng itssocial reform programs". Some observers outside the Church have characterized the department as an intelligence agency, comparing it variously to the CIA or the KGB. The department has targeted critics of the Church with dead agent operations and character assassination. Cult Awareness Network
The Cult Awareness Network (CAN) was an anti-cult organization created by deprogrammer Ted Patrick that provided information on groups that it considered to be cults, as well as support and referrals to deprogrammers. It was founded in the wake of the November 18, 1978, deaths of members of the Peoples Temple and assassination of Congressman Leo J. Ryan in Jonestown, Guyana. The "Old CAN" was shut down in 1996. Paul Morantz
Paul Robert Morantz (August 16, 1945 – October 23, 2022) was an American attorney and investigative journalist. He was known for taking legal cases alleging brainwashing by cults, self-help groups and for sexual misconduct by psychotherapists. His successful prosecution of Synanon led to an attempt against his life, by means of a rattlesnake. Early life and career Morantz was born and raised in Southern California. After high school, he served in the United States Army in 1963 for six months as a reservist. The Family Federation for World Peace and Unification, widely known as the Unification Church, is a new religious movement, whose members are called Unificationists, or "Moonies". It was officially founded on 1 May 1954 under the name Holy Spirit Association for the Unification of World Christianity (HSA-UWC) in Seoul, South Korea, by Sun Myung Moon (1920–2012).
