Ford C2 Platform
The Ford C2 platform is an automobile platform developed by Ford since 2018. It replaced the Ford C1 platform as the platform for its compact cars (C-segment). The modularity of the platform enables it to be used for various models, which spreads out development costs over more vehicles. It can use torsion beam or multilink rear suspension. Unlike its predecessor, the C2 platform can be used for cars of varying wheelbases and track widths, from subcompact to compact. Vehicles based on the C2 platform have been reviewed very favourably with regards to driving characteristics. Applications * Ford Focus (fourth generation) (C519; 2018–present) * Ford Escape (fourth generation)/ Kuga (third generation) (CX482; 2019–present) * Ford Bronco Sport (CX430; 2020–present) * Ford Maverick (P758; 2021–present) * Ford Evos (2021–present) * Ford Mondeo (China) (2022–present) * Lincoln Corsair (CX483; 2019–present) * Lincoln Zephyr Lincoln Zephyr is a name used by various differe ...

Ford Global C-car Platform
The Ford Global C-car Platform is Ford's global compact car automobile platform. It replaces the Ford C170 platform and Mazda B platform (BJ). The C1 platform debuted with the European Ford Focus C-Max compact MPV in early 2004. The platform is designed for either front- or all-wheel drive. First called the C1 platform, it was designed in Ford's European development center in Cologne, Germany, as the "C Technologies Program". It was said to be one of the largest platform programs in history at that time. The Ford Focus, Volvo S40 and V50, and Mazda3 (BK and BL) share about 60% of their parts and components. Thirty engineers each from Ford, Mazda, and Volvo worked in Cologne for two years to combine the compact-car engineering for all three automakers under the direction of Ford Director of C Technologies Derrick Kuzak, Ford of Europe vice president of product development. The platform has been stretched creating the EUCD for use in future Volvo vehicles. Among all of the cars ...

Twist-beam Rear Suspension
The twist-beam rear suspension (also torsion-beam axle, deformable torsion beam or compound crank) is a type of automobile suspension based on a large H or C-shaped member. The front of the H attaches to the body via rubber bushings, and the rear of the H carries each stub-axle assembly, on each side of the car. The cross beam of the H holds the two trailing arms together, and provides the roll stiffness of the suspension, by twisting as the two trailing arms move vertically, relative to each other. Functioning The coil springs usually bear on a pad alongside the stub-axle. Often the shock is colinear with the spring forming a coil-over. In many cases the damper is also used as a restraint strap to stop the arm descending so far that the coil spring falls out through being completely unloaded. This location gives a high motion ratio compared with most suspensions, improving performance. The longitudinal location of the cross beam controls important parameters of the suspen ...

Ford Escape
The Ford Escape is a compact crossover SUV sold by Ford since 2000 over four generations. In other markets, the first generation models were either replaced by updated first generation versions, or replaced by the Mazda CX-7 (2006) and Ford Kuga (2008). Unlike the collaborative approach taken with the previous model, this time the design and engineering was carried out solely by Ford. Since 2013, the model has been paralleled with the Kuga sold outside North America, making them essentially identical. A hybrid option was again available. Ford released the third generation model in 2012 for the 2013 model year. For the third-generation, Ford unified the model with the Europe-designed Ford Kuga ...

Multi-link Suspension
A multi-link suspension is a type of vehicle suspension with one or more longitudinal arms. A wider definition can consider any independent suspensions having three control links or more multi-link suspensions. These arms do not have to be of equal length, and may be angled away from their "obvious" direction. It was first introduced in the late 1960s on the Mercedes-Benz C111 and later on their W201 and W124 series. Typically each arm has a spherical joint (ball joint) or rubber bushing at each end. Consequently, they react to loads along their own length, in tension and compression, but not in bending. Some multi-links do use a trailing arm, control arm or wishbone, which has two bushings at one end. On a front suspension one of the lateral arms is replaced by the tie-rod, which connects the rack or steering box to the wheel hub. The solid axle multi-link system is another variation of the same concept, and offers some advantages over independent multi-link, as it is sign ...
