An early settler, James Gordon, was born at Forcett, Yorkshire in 1779. Geography Most of the boundaries of the locality are survey lines. The shore of Pitt Water Estuary forms part of the western boundary. 2016 Australian Census
The 2016 Australian census was the 17th national population census held in Australia. The census was officially conducted with effect on Tuesday, 9 August 2016. The total population of the Commonwealth of Australia was counted as – an increase of 8.8 per cent or people over the . Norfolk Island joined the census for the first time in 2016, adding 1,748 to the population. The ABS annual report revealed that $24 million in additional expenses accrued due to the outage on the census website. Results from the 2016 census were available to the public on 11 April 2017, from the Australian Bureau of Statistics website, two months earlier than for any previous census. The 2016 census determined a population of 691 for the state suburb of Lewisham. History The locality is named for the family of Dr Arndell Lewis, an Australian politician. It was proclaimed as a town in 1957, and changed to a suburb/locality in 1988. The shore of Pitt Water forms the western and south-western boundaries. Arthur Highway
The Arthur Highway (A9) is a Tasmanian highway which runs from Sorell in the near south to Port Arthur in the far south-east. Route description From its intersection with the Tasman Highway in Sorell the highway runs east, crossing Iron Creek before turning south-east to Forcett. From there it continues in an easterly direction, crossing the Carlton River, to Copping, where it turns south to Dunalley. Here it crosses the Denison Canal via a swing bridge to the Forestier Peninsula, before continuing south-east to Eaglehawk Neck, the entry to the Tasman Peninsula. After following the southern shore of Eaglehawk Bay to the west the highway turns south and continues in that direction to Port Arthur where it transitions to route B37 (Nubeena Road). Forcett is a village in the Richmondshire district of North Yorkshire, England. It lies near the border with County Durham, on the B6274 road about 8 miles south of Staindrop. Nearby villages include Eppleby, Caldwell and Aldbrough. History The origin of the place-name is from the Old English words ''ford'' and ''set'' meaning fold by a ford and appears as ''Forset'' in the Domesday Book of 1086. In 1367, the manor was granted to Sir Walter Urswyk by John of Gaunt, Duke of Lancaster, Earl of Richmond, for Urswyk's valour at the Battle of Navarretta during the Hundred Years' War. Copping, Tasmania
Copping is a rural locality in the local government area of Sorell in the South-east region of Tasmania. The locality is about south-east of the town of Sorell. The 2016 census has a population of 183 for the state suburb of Copping. History Copping was gazetted as a locality in 1968. Part of the Bream Creek district, it was named after Captain Richard Copping, who purchased a property here from George Moore in 1860 upon which he settled three of his half-brothers as tenant farmers. Captain Copping established his own property ''Rochford Hall'' nearby at Kellevie. Copping Post Office opened on 1 October 1886 and closed in 1988. Copping gained notoriety when it was revealed that Martin Bryant lived there for a number of years in the 1990s. Properties were destroyed in Copping during bushfires in January 2013.
