Forbidden Broadway
''Forbidden Broadway'' is an Off-Broadway revue parodying musical theatre, particularly Broadway musicals. It was conceived, written and directed by Gerard Alessandrini. The original version of the revue opened on January 15, 1982, at Palsson's Supper Club in New York City and ran for 2,332 performances. Alessandrini has rewritten the show more than a dozen times over the years to include parodies of newer shows. Michael Chapman directed and produced. In 1982, Jeff Martin succeeded Chapman as director. Alessandrini assumed the directing position subsequently, with Phillip George, Alessandrini's long-time collaborator, co-directing or directing all of the editions of the revue since 2004. The show, in its various editions, received over 9,000 performances by 2009 and has been seen in more than 200 U.S. cities as well as ...

A Spoof Odyssey
A, or a, is the first letter and the first vowel of the Latin alphabet, used in the modern English alphabet, the alphabets of other western European languages and others worldwide. Its name in English is ''a'' (pronounced ), plural ''aes''. It is similar in shape to the Ancient Greek letter alpha, from which it derives. The uppercase version consists of the two slanting sides of a triangle, crossed in the middle by a horizontal bar. The lowercase version can be written in two forms: the double-storey a and single-storey ɑ. The latter is commonly used in handwriting and fonts based on it, especially fonts intended to be read by children, and is also found in italic type. In English grammar, " a", and its variant " an", are indefinite articles. History The earliest certain ancestor of "A" is aleph (also written 'aleph), the first letter of the Phoenician alphabet, which consisted entirely of consonants (for that reason, it is also called an abjad to distinguis ...

Forbidden Broadway Cleans Up Its Act
{{Unreferenced, date=January 2008 ''Forbidden Broadway Cleans Up Its Act'' is the fifth incarnation of Gerard Alessandrini's '' Forbidden Broadway'', his popular off-Broadway musical revue spoofing "the best of Broadway". All the parody lyrics were written (as always) by Gerard Alessandrini. This version was co-directed by Alessandrini and his long-time collaborator Phillip George. George had up till then only been credited with "Musical Staging" and as "Assistant Director". George also contributed many of the more successful ideas and dialogue sketches to the more recent ''Forbidden Broadway'' editions. The show played in the basement of Ellen's Stardust Diner, and the album is the fifth volume in the series. Because it features none of the original 1982 ''Forbidden Broadway'' cast members, it is labeled "The Unoriginal Cast Recording". It was recorded in December 1998 and released in 1999. The leading premise of the show and album is that, like Times Square, FB should drop it ...

It later moved to the basement of Ellen's Stardust Diner and, as is the show's tradition, spoofed Broadway theatre, Broadway's latest. An album was later released to accompany it, being the fourth volume of the FB franchise. The album was recorded and mixed by Cynthia Daniels at Giant Sound, Dec. 11-14, 1996, and released in 1997 after Original cast member David Hibbard (stage actor), David Hibbard moved on to Once Upon A Mattress and was replaced by Tom Plotkin. Forbidden Hollywood (parody)
''Forbidden Hollywood'' is a parody show that opened Off-Off-Broadway and was taped live in Hollywood. It was created by Gerard Alessandrini, who also created the popular series of Off-Broadway parodies of Broadway theatre, ''Forbidden Broadway''. But this production, instead of spoofing Broadway, lampooned popular films such as '' Forrest Gump'', ''Sense and Sensibility'', ''Pulp Fiction'', '' Casablanca'', '' The Wizard of Oz'' and Disney's '' Aladdin'', and songs featured in them, although most of the score consists of songs from musicals used to comment on the films. It also spoofs movie stars like Tom Hanks, Keanu Reeves, Barbra Streisand, Ann-Margret and Whoopi Goldberg. A ''New York Times'' reviewer wrote that although the production had funny moments, "the tone that defines the show is a glib disaffection for Hollywood", lamenting that the show missed the opportunity to use more songs from films, and concluding: "It's fine if Mr. Alessandrini wants to see Hollywood as t ...

Climb Ev'ry Mountain
"Climb Ev'ry Mountain" is a show tune from the 1959 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical ''The Sound of Music.'' It is sung at the close of the first act by the Mother Abbess. It is themed as an inspirational piece, to encourage people to take every step toward attaining their dreams. Background This song shares inspirational overtones with the song "You'll Never Walk Alone" from '' Carousel''. They are both sung by the female mentor characters in the shows, and are used to give strength to the protagonists in the story, and both are given powerful reprises at the end of their respective shows. As Oscar Hammerstein II was writing the lyrics, it developed its own inspirational overtones along the lines of an earlier Hammerstein song, "There's a Hill Beyond a Hill". He felt that the metaphors of climbing mountains and fording streams better fitted Maria's quest for her spiritual compass. The muse behind the song was Sister Gregory, the head of Drama at Rosary College in Illinois. Th ...
