Frank Lloyd
Frank William George Lloyd (2 February 1886 – 10 August 1960) was a British-born American film director, actor, scriptwriter, and producer. He was among the founders of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and was its president from 1934 to 1935. Biography Lloyd was born in Glasgow, Scotland. His mother Jane was Scottish and his father Edmund was Welsh. Lloyd started his career as a singer and stage actor in London. He is Scotland's first Academy Award winner and is unique in film history, having received three Oscar nominations in 1929 for his work on a silent film (''The Divine Lady''), a part-talkie (''Weary River'') and a full talkie ('' Drag''). He won for ''The Divine Lady''. He was nominated and won again in 1933 for his adaptation of Noël Coward's ''Cavalcade'' and received a further Best Director nomination in 1935 for perhaps his most successful film, ''Mutiny on the Bounty''. John Slavin (actor)
John Slavin (born Carnoustie, Scotland) was a Scottish football half back who played professionally in Scotland and in both the first and second American Soccer Leagues. Slavin played for Raith Rovers and may have played for Arbroath F.C. and on loan to Forfar Athletic. In 1925, Slavin joined Hearts for the 1925–1926 season. In 1927, Slavin signed with the New York Nationals of the American Soccer League. Although the Nationals finished tenth in the league standings, it won the 1928 National Challenge Cup. In 1930, Charles Stoneham, owner of the Nationals renamed the team the New York Giants. The team collapsed in 1932 and the league followed soon after. Anna Lehr (November 17, 1890 – January 22, 1974) was an American silent film and stage actress.''At The Majestic'', ''Sheboygan Press'', May 24, 1916, p. 2 Biography Born in New York City to Austrian immigrant parents, Frank Lehr and Emilie Freisinger, Anna Lehr filmed ''Civilization's Child'' (1916) for Thomas Ince, a Triangle-Kay Bee feature. The screenplay was written by C. Gardner Sullivan. There is a scene in which Russian cavalry charge over her as she lies prostrate on the ground. Lehr's fear was abated somewhat by her belief that horses will not step on people except by accident. She played "Doris Ames" in the silent film ''Grafters'' (1917), which was directed by Allan Dwan. In 1919 Lehr was chosen by David Powell to play in ''Teeth of the Tiger''. She was forced to withdraw due to ptomaine poisoning. The movie was being filmed by Famous Players-Lasky in New York City. Wilhelm Fried Fuchs ( hu, Fried Vilmos; January 1, 1879 – May 8, 1952), commonly and better known as William Fox, was a Hungarian-American film industry executive who founded the Fox Film Corporation in 1915 and the Fox West Coast Theatres chain in the 1920s. Although he lost control of his film businesses in 1930, his name was used by 20th Century Fox (now ''20th Century Studios'') and continues to be used in the trademarks of the present-day Fox Corporation, including the Fox Broadcasting Company, Fox News, Fox Sports and Foxtel.
