Footscray Cricket Club is an Australian cricket team competing in the Victorian Premier Cricket competition. History The Footscray Cricket Club was founded in 1883 and for the first 113 years of its existence was located at the Western Oval until 1996 when combined pressure exerted by the Footscray Football Club and state-government-appointed commissioners to the City of Maribyrnong saw the club relocated to the Mervyn G. Hughes Oval. Cricket
Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). Tony Dodemaide
Anthony Ian Christopher Dodemaide (born 5 October 1963) is an Australian former test cricketer. After a three-year stint as Chief Executive of the Western Australian Cricket Association in Perth, he became the current chief executive of Cricket Victoria. He is currently a selector for the Australian men's national team. He took 534 first-class wickets for Victoria and Sussex. He also took a five-wicket haul on both his Test and One Day International (ODI) debuts. International career Dodemaide began his career as a fast-bowling all-rounder and competed in 10 Tests and 24 One Day Internationals for Australia. Despite healthy batting and bowling averages for an all-rounder at test level (23 and 28 respectively), Dodemaide only made ten Test appearances. John Hastings (cricketer)
John Wayne Hastings (born 4 November 1985) is a former Australian international cricketer who played for the Victoria cricket team. He played as an all-rounder. In October 2017, he announced his retirement from Test and One Day International cricket. Later that month, he retired from all forms of cricket following a lung condition. Domestic career At the end of the 2006–07 season, Hastings was recruited from New South Wales, where he had represented the state in under-age and Second XI teams. He impressed with his first one-day games for Victoria and grabbed three wickets in six deliveries on debut in 2007–08, when he was asked to bowl at the death against Queensland. His first-class debut, against the touring Indian national team, was ruined by rain. The following January, he required surgery to have a pin inserted in a fractured finger. Colin Miller (cricketer)
Colin Reid Miller (born 6 February 1964) is an Australian former cricketer who played 18 Tests for Australia between 1998 and 2001. In May 2002, Miller announced his retirement from cricket. Miller was a bowler capable of performing effectively either as a right-arm fast-medium or off break bowler and achieved a Test average of 26.15. A tailend batsman who made three fifties in 126 first-class matches, he is particularly remembered for appearing with his hair dyed blue in a Test match against the West Indies in 2001. Mervyn Gregory Hughes (born 23 November 1961) is a former Australian cricketer. A right-arm fast bowler, he represented Australia national cricket team, Australia in 53 Test cricket, Test matches between 1985 and 1994, taking 212 wickets. He played 33 One Day Internationals, taking 38 wickets. He took a Hat-trick (cricket), hat-trick in a Test against the West Indies cricket team, West Indies at the WACA Ground, WACA in 1988–89. Victorian Premier Cricket
Victorian Premier Cricket is a club cricket competition in the state of Victoria administered by Cricket Victoria. Each club fields four teams (firsts through to fourths) of adult players and usually play on weekends and public holidays. Matches are played on turf wickets under limited-time rules, with most results being decided on a first-innings basis. Outstanding players in the competition are selected to play for the Victorian Bushrangers at first-class and List A level, in the Sheffield Shield and Marsh One Day Cup competitions respectively. The competition commenced in the 1906–07 season when it was known as "District cricket", and was renamed in 1990. Ray Bright
Raymond James Bright (born 13 July 1954) is a former Australian Test and One Day International cricketer from Victoria. He was a left arm spin bowler and lower order batsman who captained Victoria for a number of seasons. He was also an Australian vice-captain. Bright made his One Day International debut for Australia on the tour of New Zealand in the 1973/74 season. He also toured New Zealand in the 1976–77 season, and he then toured England in 1977, and made his Test debut in the Second Test at Old Trafford. Over the next decade he was a fixture in the Australian squad without ever holding down a regular place in the Test or One Day teams, playing in only twenty-five Tests and eleven One Day Internationals during his twelve-year international career. Alan Hurst (cricketer)
Alan George Hurst (born 15 July 1950) is a former Australian cricketer who played in twelve Test matches and eight One Day Internationals between 1975 and 1979. Career Hurst made his first class debut in 1972–73 taking 18 wickets at 40.61. Test debut Hurst was talked about as a test prospect early on because of his pace. He was picked to play in the thirst test against New Zealand at the Adelaide, replacing an injured Max Walker. That season the selectors were "experimenting" heavily in anticipation of the Ashes series later in the year. According to one writer, "Hurst is no express. A famous Australian former selector refers to him as "the hearse" but throughout a hard Shield season he has carried the burden for Victoria and his figures have been consistently presentable."
