Apia () is the Capital (political), capital and largest city of Samoa, as well as the nation's only city. It is located on the central north coast of Upolu, Samoa's second-largest island. Apia falls within the political district (''itūmālō'') of Tuamasaga. The Apia Urban Area (generally known as the City of Apia) has a population of 37,391 (2016 census). Football at the 2011 Pacific Games was held from 27 August to 9 September 2011 at several venues with tournaments for men's and women's teams. The men's tournament was intended to be part of the Qualification in Oceania for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, however the format was amended in June 2011 and the Pacific Games are no longer a part of the qualification process. 2007 South Pacific Games
The 2007 South Pacific Games were held in Apia, Samoa, from 25 August to 8 September 2007. The Games were the thirteenth to be held since the inception of the South Pacific Games in 1963, and included traditional multi-sport event disciplines, such as athletics and swimming, alongside region-specific and smaller events such as outrigger canoeing, surfing and lawn bowls. The principal venue for the Games was Apia Park, with other events taking place at the Faleata Sporting Complex and at other locations around Samoa. The cost of the games was reported to be US$92 million, and resulted in significant government debt for Samoa due to infrastructure projects which included replacement bridges and roads. Football At The 2007 South Pacific Games – Men's Tournament
The 2007 Pacific Games men's football tournament was held at the Toleafoa J.S. Blatter Complex in Apia, Samoa in from 25 August to 7 September 2007. The men's tournament formed the first stage of the Oceania Football Confederation's (OFC) qualification tournament for the 2010 FIFA World Cup and the qualification tournament for the 2008 OFC Nations Cup. Tournament The final accredited athlete list at thSPG website shows 10 entered sides. Papua New Guinea, although listed by FIFA as having applied for the 2010 World Cup, did not enter. Tuvalu did enter (although they were not eligible for the World Cup). The group stage draw, undertaken by Tim Cahill, was held on 12 June 2007 in Auckland, New Zealand. The 2007 Pacific Games women's football tournament was the second edition of Pacific Games women's football tournament. The competition was held in Samoa from 25 August to 7 September 2011 with the final played at the Toleafoa J.S. Blatter Complex in Apia. This tournament was the first stage of qualification for the 2008 Olympic Games Women's Football Tournament. Only Papua New Guinea moved on to stage 2.
