Association football, more commonly known as football or soccer, is a team sport played between two teams of 11 players who primarily use their feet to propel the ball around a rectangular field called a pitch. The objective of the game is to score more goals than the opposition by moving the ball beyond the goal line into a rectangular framed goal defended by the opposing side. Women's football in Japan is one of the rising powers of women's football. History The first women's football team in Japan was formed in 1966. In the first national female football tournament in 1980, women played 8-a-side football and on smaller soccer fields than their male counterparts. National competition The WE League was established in the 2021–22 season as Japan's first fully professional women's football league. It replaced the top level Nadeshiko League as the country's top women's league. The Nadeshiko League now occupies the two levels below the WE League. The Nadeshiko League began in 1989. Ajinomoto Stadium
, also known as Tokyo Stadium in AFC Champions League, is a multi-purpose stadium in Chōfu, Tokyo, Japan. The stadium was founded at Kantō Mura, the redevelopment area formerly used by United States Forces Japan, in March 2001. It was the first stadium in Japan that offered its naming rights, which were sold to Ajinomoto Co., Inc. with a 5-year 1.2 billion yen (about 10 million U.S. dollars) contract, from March 2003 to February 2008. The Japan National Stadium, officially named and formerly known as or , is a multi-purpose stadium used mostly for association football in Kasumigaokamachi, Kasumigaoka, Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan. is a Japanese football club based in Tokyo. It is the oldest Japanese football club, founded in 1917, and it was the first to win the Emperor's Cup, the top national cup in Japan. FC Korea
is a Japanese football club playing in the Kanto Soccer League, one of the Japanese Regional Leagues. History The club was founded in 1961 as ''Zainichi Chosen Football Club''. Initially it maintained links with Chongryon, the pro-North Korea organization of Koreans in Japan, and recruited talent through the Korea University sports program.
