Football Federation Australia - Football Hall Of Fame
The aims of the Football Australia Hall of Fame are to celebrate and highlight the achievements of retired players and other participants who have contributed significantly to the game. These are made up of either Australian and/or non-Australian players, managers and other participants who have become significant figures in the history of the game in Australia. It was first established as the Soccer Hall of Fame in 1999. New members are generally added each year. Selection All nominees must be Australian citizens. For non-players, inclusion is based on criteria including and "overall sustained contribution to the game". Football Australia
Football Australia is the governing body of soccer, futsal, and beach soccer within Australia, headquartered in Sydney. Although the first governing body of the sport was founded in 1911, Football Australia in its current form was only established in 1961 as the Australian Soccer Federation. It was later reconstituted in 2003 as the Australian Soccer Association before adopting the name of Football Federation Australia in 2005. In contemporary identification, a corporate decision was undertaken to institute that name to deliver a "more united football" in a deliberation from the current CEO, James Johnson. The name was changed to Football Australia in December 2020. Football Australia oversees the men's, women's, youth, Paralympic, beach and futsal national teams in Australia, the national coaching programs and the state governing bodies for the sport. James Birrell Mackay (19 December 1943, in Scotland – 11 December 1998) was a Scottish-born Australian association football player. He was a member of the Australian 1974 World Cup squad in West Germany. In late 1973, he scored the decisive goal against South Korea which sent Australia to its first ever World Cup. William Maunder
William "Podge" Maunder (30 November 1902 – 25 June 1964) was an Australian soccer player. Maunder is recognised as the player who scored Australia's first international goal. Early life Maunder was born in Newcastle in 1902. His father, known as "Doey" Maunder was a prominent local soccer player. William Maunder's brother, Henry also took up the game and William and Henry appeared in an international match together against Canada in 1924. Club career In his club career, Maunder scored more than 500 goals in Northern NSW competition and was offered a professional contract by Scottish club St Mirren F.C. Manfred Schaefer
Manfred Schaefer (born 12 February 1943) is a former association football defender. At club level he won titles with St. George Budapest. With the Australian national team he participated in the 1974 World Cup in his native Germany. As coach he was several times runner-up in the Australian National Soccer League with various clubs. Biography Schaefer was born in the East Prussian town of Pillau, Germany (now Baltiysk, Russia), near Königsberg (now Kaliningrad). Harry Williams (born 1951) is a former soccer player. He was the first recognised Indigenous Australian to play for the senior Australian national football team, the Socceroos. He was part of Australia's 1974 FIFA World Cup squad. Early life Williams was born in 1951 in Sydney. From the age of nine, Williams played junior soccer for St George Police Boys side in Sydney. Career Williams played in the New South Wales competition for St George. He was recruited to the national side at the age of 19, and went on an overseas tour with the team in 1970. In 1974, having only played six matches for Australia as a senior, Williams was part of Australia's first foray into the World Cup Finals in West Germany.
