Football At The 1971 Pan American Games
The sixth edition of the football tournament at the Pan American Games was held in five cities in Colombia: Cali (main city of the Games) Cartago, Buga, Palmira and Tuluá, from July 31 to August 12, 1971. Twelve teams divided in three groups of four did compete in a round-robin competition, with Mexico defending the title. Estadio Olímpico Pascual Guerrero
The Estadio Olimpico Pascual Guerrero is a football stadium, also used for athletics, concerts, and rugby sevens, in Santiago de Cali, Colombia which is named to honor the poet Pascual Guerrero. The stadium and the sports complex that surrounds it are one of the finest and most modern sports complexes in Latin America, and led to references of Cali as the "Sports Capital of America". The "Pascual", as Cali's inhabitants usually call the stadium, replaced the now defunct ''Estadio Galilea'' which was located in the Versailles neighbourhood, where the first national athletics competition was held in 1928. The Pascual is still an important venue for domestic and international sporting events. With renovations made for the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Colombia and additional suits and sky boxes the stadium's capacity was reduced to 35,000 people. Jamaica National Football Team
The Jamaica national football team, nicknamed the "Reggae Boyz", represents Jamaica in international football. The team's first match was against Haiti in 1925. The squad is under the supervising body of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF), which is a member of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU), Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF), and the global jurisdiction of FIFA. Jamaica's home matches have been played at Independence Park since its opening in 1962. Their sole appearance in the FIFA World Cup was in 1998, where the team finished third in its group and failed to advance. The team also competed in the Caribbean Cup winning six times. Luis Oruezábal
Luis Oruezábal López (13 May 1952 – 31 December 2014) was an Argentine footballer who played as a forward. Football career Born in Buenos Aires to Spanish parents that emigrated from Burgos in the 1940s, Oruezábal played for Club Atlético Vélez Sarsfield in his country, returning to the land of his ancestors in early 1974 after signing for Granada CF and also representing Andalusia neighbours Real Jaén, retiring in 1980 at only 28 due to a serious injury. Oruezábal made his debut in La Liga on 28 April 1974, playing 60 minutes in a 0–2 away loss against Racing de Santander. Post-retirement / Death After retiring settled in Granada, going on to manage a restaurant alongside fellow footballer Ladislao Mazurkiewicz named Chikito. Alberto Jorge
Alberto Mario Jorge Espósito (born 1 January 1950) is an Argentine association football manager and former player. He spent most of his career in Mexico, where he arrived in 1975 to play with León. As a manager, he won a Primera División title with Toluca as caretaker, coaching the team in the last four games of the tournament (the two legs of the playoffs semi-finals and the two legs of the final). Jorge is the only caretaker manager to have won a league title in the Liga MX so far. Club career Jorge started his professional football career with Racing Club de Avellaneda in 1970 as a midfielder. During his spell with Racing, Jorge played 167 matches and scored 39 goals. Osvaldo Daniel Batocletti Ronco (January 22, 1950 – May 17, 2019), known by audience and fans as ''Bato'', was an Argentine football manager and player, who played as a defender. Batocletti coached Tigres UANL and Querétaro F.C. He resided in Mexico from 1974–2019 and held Mexican citizenship. He died on May 17, 2019 after a battle with cancer.
