Food Column
A food column is a type of newspaper column dealing with food. It may be focused on recipes, health trends, or improving efficiency. It is generally geared towards gourmets or "foodies". Since 1994, food writers have also written columns and blogs on the web. Kate Heyhoe's Internet column first appeared on the electronic Gourmet Guide in December 1994 and became the centerpiece of its own website, The Global Gourmet, in 1996, making her one of the longest, continuously-running food blogger/columnists on the web. Column (newspaper)
A column is a recurring piece or article in a newspaper, magazine or other publication, where a writer expresses their own opinion in few columns allotted to them by the newspaper organisation. Columns are written by columnists. What differentiates a column from other forms of journalism is that it is a regular feature in a publication – written by the same writer or reporter and usually on the same subject area or theme each time – and that it typically, but not universally, contains the author's opinion or point of view. Gourmet (, ) is a cultural idea associated with the culinary arts of fine food and drink, or haute cuisine, which is characterized by refined, even elaborate preparations and presentations of aesthetically balanced meals of several contrasting, often quite rich courses. Historically the ingredients used in the meal tended to be rare for the region, which could also be impacted by the local state and religious customs. The term and the related characteristics are typically used to describe people with refined tastes and enthusiasm. Gourmet food is frequently provided in more expensive, smaller servings. Kate Heyhoe
Katherine Evelyn Heyhoe (born April 9, 1955) is an American editor and food writer. She is the author of numerous gourmet cookbooks. Career Heyhoe has been a member of the International Association of Culinary Professionals (IACP) since 1994, when she co-founded the electronic Gourmet Guide, one of the first websites dedicated to food and cooking. In 1995 she developed food sites for America Online and in 1996 launched The Global Gourmet website which merged into the Global Gourmet in 1998. She is currently Executive Editor of The Global Gourmet and writes a monthly food column about culinary topics. Heyhoe coined the term ''cookprint''. ''Cookprint'' is a set of resources used to cook the food, including the ingredients, the energy and water used to prepare the food, and also the waste produced in the process. A columnist is a person who writes for publication in a series, creating an article that usually offers commentary and opinions. Craig Claiborne
Craig Claiborne (September 4, 1920 January 22, 2000) was an American restaurant critic, food journalist and book author. A long-time food editor and restaurant critic for ''The New York Times'', he was also the author of numerous cookbooks and an autobiography. Over the course of his career, he made many contributions to gastronomy and food writing in the United States. Early life Born in Sunflower, Mississippi, Claiborne was raised on the region's distinctive cuisine in the kitchen of his mother's boarding house in Indianola, Mississippi. He essayed in premedical studies at the Mississippi State College from 1937 to 1939. Christopher Kimball is an American editor, publisher, and radio and TV personality. He is notable as one of the founders of ''America's Test Kitchen'' and ''Cook's Country'' and as the creator of ''Christopher Kimball's Milk Street''. Wolfgang Johannes Puck (born July 8, 1949) is an Austrian-American chef and restaurateur. Early life and career Puck was born in Sankt Veit an der Glan, Austria. He learned cooking from his mother, who was a pastry chef. He took the surname of his stepfather, Josef Puck, after his mother's remarriage.
