Fonda Metassa
Fonda Metassa (died 26 May 2018) was an Australian professional rugby league footballer. Known as "the Golden Greek", he played in the Brisbane Rugby League premiership for Fortitude Valley and Norths, and in the New South Wales Rugby Football League premiership for the South Sydney Rabbitohs in the 1960s. A powerful winger, Metassa played two seasons (1960 and 1961) for South Sydney. He became a part of Brisbane Rugby League folklore when, in a 1968 reserve grade match for Norths against Souths at Lang Park, he burst from the back of an ambulance to return to the field after being carted off injured. Metassa also played one match for Queensland against Great Britain in 1966. Fonda is a city in Pocahontas County, Iowa, United States. The population was 636 at the time of the 2020 census. History The city of Fonda was originally called Marvin. Marvin, however, was deemed too similar to Manson, Iowa and due to mail being mixed up, town officials changed the name to Fonda in 1874. The nearest municipality sharing the name, "Fonda", is Fonda, New York. Geography Fonda is located at (42.582819, -94.845810). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of , all land. The town is located at the western edge of the Des Moines Lobe, the most recently glaciated section of Iowa. Fonda is a village in and the county seat of Montgomery County, New York, United States. The population was 795 at the 2010 census. The village is named after Douw Fonda, a Dutch-American settler who was killed and scalped in 1780, during a Mohawk raid in the Revolutionary War, when the tribe was allied with the British. The Village of Fonda is in the Town of Mohawk and is west of Amsterdam. In 1993, the Mohawk people bought land here to re-establish the ''Kanatsiohareke'' community formerly at this site. The Fonda Fair is an annual agricultural event that takes place in August. Fonda is an American indie pop band from Los Angeles, California. History The band formed in 1994 when singer/keyboardist Emily Cook and guitarist David Klotz met while both working for the same film production company. With the addition of drummer Aaron Ryder, the group played its first live dates at area clubs like Spaceland and Cafe Bleu, and in 1998 issued their debut EP Music for Beginners on the Top Quality label, with the cut "Crazy Love" becoming a staple on L.A. radio station KROQ. Their debut album, The Invisible Girl peaked at No. 39 on CMJ's Radio 200 Chart in December, 1999. Dave Newton, guitarist for the British band The Mighty Lemon Drops was an active member of Fonda between 1998 and 2003.
