Folwell is a neighborhood in the U.S. city of Minneapolis on its northside that is bound by Dowling Avenue to the north, Dupont Avenue North to the east, Lowry Avenue North to the south, and Penn Avenue North to the west. It is part of the larger Camden community. Located within the neighborhood is the 27-acre Folwell Park. Hawthorne is a neighborhood in the Near North, Minneapolis, Near North community in Minneapolis. Its boundaries are Lowry Avenue North to the north, the Mississippi River to the east, West Broadway to the south, and Emerson Avenue North to the west. The neighborhood is named in honor of 19th Century American author Nathaniel Hawthorne. Demographics Based on Census 2000 figures, the neighborhood's ethnic makeup changed significantly between 1980 and 2000. All ethnic groups except whites and American Indians increased in number. The white population dropped from 85 percent of the population in 1980 to 19 percent in 2000. During that same time period, the black population increased from 5 percent to 50 percent, and the Asian population grew from less than 1 percent to 17 percent. McKinley is a neighborhood in the U.S. city of Minneapolis on its northside that is bound to the north by Dowling Avenue North, to the south by Lowry Avenue North, to the west by Dupont Avenue North, and to the east by the Mississippi River. William Watts Folwell
William Watts Folwell (February 14, 1833 – September 17, 1929) was an educator, writer and historian who was the first president of the University of Minnesota. Biography Folwell was born in 1833 in Romulus, New York. He attended Hobart College in Geneva, New York, where he received his undergraduate degree in 1857. Folwell was a member of Alpha Delta Phi fraternity at Hobart. In 1859, he became adjunct professor of mathematics there, and received a Master of Arts degree in 1860. He spent the years 1860–1861 in the study of philology at Berlin and in travel. During the American Civil War, he served in the 50th New York Volunteer Engineer Regiment where he received the rank of brevet lieutenant colonel of engineers. After the Civil War, Folwell briefly engaged in business pursuits in Ohio and accepted a position as the chair of mathematics at Kenyon College, Ohio for a year. Camden is a community in Minneapolis, covering the upper half of the north side. Its boundaries are 53rd Avenue North to the north, the Mississippi River to the east, Lowry Avenue North to the south, and Xerxes Avenue North to the west.
