Follonica Hockey
Follonica Hockey or Associazione Sportiva Dilettantistica Follonica Hockey is a roller hockey team from Follonica, Italy. It was established in 1952. History Merged in 1962 with another team belonging to the same town, Follonica Hockey made their debut in the Serie A italian championship in 1962. After alternating during several seasons the first and second tiers, in the 1970s the club consolidates in the top league and wins their first national cup in 1977 and five years later the second one. In 2005, Follonica wins their first continental title by winning the 2004–05 CERS Cup and weeks later, they would achieve the first of their four consecutive Italian leagues. One year later, Follonica became the first Italian team to win the CERH European League, the top European club competition. Follonica () is a town and ''comune'' (township) of province of Grosseto in the Italian region of Tuscany, on the Gulf of Follonica (''Golfo di Follonica''), about northwest of the city of Grosseto. History It was founded in 1834 by Grand Duke Leopold II of Tuscany for the workers of a new ironworks plant. However, the area was already settled in Etruscan and Roman times, and a medieval castle (''Castello di Valli''), whose ruins overlook now the modern town from a nearby hill, existed since at least 884. The main Italian clubs competition is the Serie A1 (english Serie A1 italian roller). It contains 14 teams. History The italian championship was formed in 1922 by the first teams who subscribed to the newborn italian federation FIPR (Federazione Italiana Pattinaggio a Rotelle). After 3 years the teams attending the national championship were divided into two different federations and none of them controlled by the fascist regime so that the national team wasn't representing nor being nominated by the regime. The CONI's President Lando Ferretti decided to close both federations acting a forced merging of skating and hockey teams into the new ''FIPR'' supervising the programmed developing of the roller skating sport in Italy. Roller Hockey (quad)
Roller hockey (in British English), rink hockey (in American English) or quad hockey is a team sport played on roller skates. It is the only quad skate team sport in existence where two teams face-off against one another at the same time. Two teams try to drive a hard ball with their sticks into the opposing teams' goalnet. Each team has five players on the rink at a time, four of whom are skaters and one who is the goalkeeper. The ball can only be put in motion by a stick, not the skate, otherwise a foul will be stated. The game has two 25-minute halves, with 15-minute halftime intermission, plus up to two 5-minute golden goal (a.k.a. "sudden death") periods to settle ties with the clock stopping when the ball becomes dead. If the tie persists, a penalty shootout will determine the winner. The 2004–05 CERS Cup was the 25th season of the CERS Cup, Europe's second club roller hockey competition organized by CERH. 22 teams from five national associations qualified for the competition as a result of their respective national league placing in the previous season. The 2005–06 CERH European League was the 41st edition of the CERH European League organized by CERH. Its Final Four was held in May 2007 in Torres Novas, Portugal. The Intercontinental Cup is a roller hockey competition organized by World Skate and usually contested between the World Skate Europe and the World Skate America champions clubs. History The Intercontinental Cup was established in 1985 and was organized by FIRS. In 2006, the then-CIRH (Comité Internationale de Rink-Hockey) tried to establish a World Club Championship, but that competition was quickly discontinued in favor of the Intercontinental Cup. The WSE Champions League is an annual club roller hockey competition organised by World Skate Europe - Rink Hockey and contested by teams from the top-ranked European leagues. The current champions are Italian side Trissino, which secured their first title in the competition after beating Portuguese side AD Valongo in the 2022 final four.
