Folehavegård
Folehavegård is an 18th-century farmhouse in Hørsholm, Denmark. It has been owned by Karen Blixen's father Wilhelm Dinesen, as well as her younger sister Ellen Dahl (née Dinesen), and was owned by the family for more than a hundred years. The main building, barn and stable are listed. Much of the land has been sold off. The remaining 35 hectares consist mostly of open farmland but adjoins the woodlands Folehaveskoven and Rungsted Hegn. History The property was originally a farm under Hørsholm Manor but it was sold off to the naval officer Conrad von Schindel in 1759. He had been stationed in the Mediterranean as commander of the frigate Dokken in 1761–63 where he negotiated a trade treaty with Tunesia. Schindel initially named the estate Christinegaard but renamed it Folehavegård after a major rebuilding of the house. He owned it until 1788. Baroness Karen Christenze von Blixen-Finecke (born Dinesen; 17 April 1885 – 7 September 1962) was a Danish author who wrote works in Danish and English. She is also known under her pen names Isak Dinesen, used in English-speaking countries, Tania Blixen, used in German-speaking countries, Osceola, and Pierre Andrézel. Blixen is best known for ''Out of Africa'', an account of her life while living in East Africa Protectorate, Kenya, and for one of her stories, ''Babette's Feast (short story), Babette's Feast'', both of which have been adapted into Academy Awards, Academy Award–winning motion pictures. She is also noted, particularly in Denmark, for her ''Seven Gothic Tales''. Among her later stories are ''Winter’s Tales'' (1942), ''Last Tales'' (1957), ''Anecdotes of Destiny'' (1958) and ''Ehrengard'' (1963). Folehaveskoven
Folehaveskoven, or Folehave Skov, is a forest in Hørsholm on the northern outskirts of Copenhagen, Denmark. It is part of a complex of smaller woodlands which also comprises Rungsted Hegn to the north, Deputatvang and Øster Sandbjerg to the south. It is bisected by the east–west running Folehavevej and is to the east bounded by the Coast Line. History The forest used to belong to Hirschholm Palace. The estate comprised some 60 fishing ponds which supplied the royal household with freshwater fish. One of them was Kongens Dam ("King's Pond") which according to records from 1751 could "take" 1,000 carps (''karper'') and 3,000 Crucian carps (''karusser''). The pond was drained in the 1780s. Ecology Golehaven consists mainly of Beech trees. The forest covers an undulating terrain with many boggy depressions. Friese's Meadow in the northeastern section was recreated in 1995. Johan Leonhard Fix
Johan Leonhard Fix (28 December 1735 - 2 February 1807) was a German-Danish merchant who served as governor of Frederiknagor in Danish India. He moved to Copenhagen in 1787 where he served as director of Danish Asiatic Company from 1791 to 1805. He was the third largest contributor to the rebuilding of Christiansborg Palace after the first Christiansborg Palace was destroyed in a fire in 1804. Early life Fix was born on 28 December 1735 in Hanau near Frankfurt. His father was a weaver. The family belonged to the Dutch Reformed church. Years in India Fix travelled to Copenhagen on foot where he was employed as bookkeeper by the Danish Asiatic Company in 1867 and travelled to Trankebar and the Bengal on board the ship ''CRON PRINCEN AF DANEMARK''. Hermann Abbestée wrote an angry letter about Fix's conduct in 1770. In 1771 he married Anthonetta Maria Henckel in Frederiksnagore. Hørsholm
Hørsholm () is an urban area on the Øresund coast approximately north of Copenhagen, Denmark. It covers most of Hørsholm Municipality and straddles the borders neighbouring Fredensborg Municipality and Rudersdal Municipality. Hørsholm proper is developed around Hirschholm Palace, which was constructed in the 1730s, but the town has later absorbed several of the nearby communities that are of much older origins. History Palace and market town Hørsholm was founded in connection with the construction of Hirschholm Palace. Niels Eigtved created a plan for a residence town in 1737 and to stimulate its growth, it was given status as market town in 1739.
