Fobia
Fobia is a Mexican rock en español band from Mexico City. History The band was formed in 1987 by Leonardo de Lozanne and Francisco "Paco" Huidobro, brother of Micky Huidobro of Molotov. The original lineup consisted of Lozanne, Huidobro, bassist Javier 'Chá!' Ramirez, keyboardist Iñaki Vazquez, and Gabriel Kuri on drums. Kuri was later replaced by Jorge ‘Chiquis’ Amaro who was followed by multi-instrumentalist Jay de la Cueva, (lead singer of the Mexican glam metal band Moderatto). Fobia was one of the original bands to emerge from the rock en español / Rock en tu idioma (Rock in your language) boom of the late 1980s, alongside Caifanes, Maná, Neón, Maldita Vecindad y los Hijos del Quinto Patio and Los Amantes de Lola; all of which followed in the footsteps of Soda Stereo – who by the late 1980s had amassed a huge following in the Americas. Fobia (album)
Fobia is an album released by Mexican pop rock band Fobia. Their self-titled debut album was released in 1990. The songs are primarily themed around common phobias and anxieties, filled with dark humor and melodic music. Songs like ''Los muñecos'' and ''Las moscas'' deal with the fear of dolls and flies respectively. Other songs like ''Dios bendiga a los gusanos'' and ''El crucifijo'' deal with the anxieties of love. ''El microbito'' delivers humor and a quick change of pace towards the album's finale. Jay de la Cueva is a Mexican model, actor, producer, singer, bassist, drummer, guitarist, pianist and songwriter. He currently fronts Moderatto. His first musical experience was as a kid with the rock band Microchips, in which he was the bass player. He later joined rock bands Victimas del Dr. Cerebro and Titán. He was also a co-founder of the band Molotov. In 1995, he left Molotov to join the band Fobia. Caifanes
Caifanes is a rock band from Mexico City. Formed in 1987, the group achieved international fame during the late 1980s and early 1990s. The original line-up was Saúl Hernández (vocals and guitar), Sabo Romo (bass guitar), (drums) and Diego Herrera (keyboards and saxophone). Alejandro Marcovich later joined as lead guitar player. Caifanes' style can be described as a hybrid of British new wave, progressive rock and Latin percussion underscored by deep, somber and Latin American-Mexican-Spanish-influenced lyrics and the vocal style of Saúl Hernández. Members of Caifanes have cited The Cure, The Beatles and King Crimson as major influences. Adrian Belew having produced their third studio album, ''El Silencio'', as well as making a guest appearance on it. ''Rock en tu idioma'' was a publicity campaign -- resulting in a series of rock albums -- initiated by the BMG Ariola music label, which other labels later also joined, to promote and distribute the music of Mexican, Spanish and Argentinian bands. Between 1986 and 1991 the campaign was part of a musical movement in Latin America, and of the boom that arose from what became known as the Movida Madrileña. The campaign's goal was to spread the music of rock bands in Spanish. It created compilation albums from the music of various artists who might not have gotten as much attention from a solo release. Several concerts were also organized to leverage the excitement. The ''Rock en tu idioma'' albums were very popular in Mexico by the late 1980s, and included music from rock groups whose work would have been difficult to find elsewhere; many had not previously released an album and were quite unknown. Saúl Alfonso Hernández Estrada (born January 15, 1964), is a Mexican musician, writer, poet, songwriter and the lead singer of Jaguares and Caifanes, two prominent Mexican rock en español bands. Biography Saúl Hernández was born in the Colonia Guerrero neighborhood of Mexico City on January 15, 1964. He lost his mother at a young age and he explained that this early confrontation with death became an inspiration for many of the songs he has written. His first band was Las Insólitas Imágenes de Aurora, the predecessor to Caifanes.
