Floyd Peters
Floyd Charles Peters (May 21, 1936 – August 18, 2008) was an American football defensive tackle in the National Football League and went to three Pro Bowls during his 13-year career. He played college football at San Francisco State University and was drafted in the eighth round of the 1958 NFL Draft. Later, Peters was an assistant coach for various teams. He was defensive coordinator of the Minnesota Vikings from 1986 to 1990 where his defenses ranked number 1 in the NFL in '88 and '89 (71 sacks in '89, one short of an NFL record), and of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are a professional American football team based in Tampa, Florida. Defensive Tackle
A defensive tackle (DT) is a position in American football that will typically line up on the line of scrimmage, opposite one of the offensive guards, however he may also line up opposite one of the tackles. Defensive tackles are typically the largest and strongest of the defensive players. Depending on a team's individual defensive scheme, a defensive tackle may be called upon to fill several different roles. These roles may include merely holding the point of attack by refusing to be moved, or penetrating a certain gap between offensive linemen to break up a play in the opponent's backfield. If a defensive tackle reads a pass play, his primary responsibility is to pursue the quarterback, or simply knock the pass down at the line if it is within arm's reach. 1968 Pro Bowl
The 1968 Pro Bowl was the National Football League's eighteenth annual all-star game which featured the outstanding performers from the season. The game was played on January 21, 1968, at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles, California. Scoring three touchdowns in the fourth quarter, the favored Western Conference rallied for a 38–20 victory, breaking the Eastern Conference's two-game winning streak. Running back Gale Sayers of the Chicago Bears was named the back of the game for the second year in a row and linebacker Dave Robinson of the league champion Green Bay Packers received the lineman of the game honors. Attendance at the game was 53,289. The game had controversy because East coach Otto Graham of the Washington Redskins benched quarterback Fran Tarkenton of the New York Giants in the fourth quarter. The ''San Francisco Chronicle'' is a newspaper serving primarily the San Francisco Bay Area of Northern California. It was founded in 1865 as ''The Daily Dramatic Chronicle'' by teenage brothers Charles de Young and M. H. de Young, Michael H. de Young. The 1958 National Football League draft had its first four rounds held on December 2, 1957, and its final twenty-six rounds on January 28, 1958. Both sessions were held at the Warwick Hotel in Philadelphia. This was the 12th and final year in which the first overall pick was a "lottery bonus". The Chicago Cardinals were automatically awarded the pick because it was the only team left that had not won the draft lottery yet. The Cardinals used the first pick to select quarterback King Hill. The National Football League Draft, also called the NFL Draft or (officially) the Player Selection Meeting, is an annual event which serves as the league's most common source of player recruitment. Each team is given a position in the drafting order in reverse order relative to its record in the previous year, which means that the last place team is positioned first and the Super Bowl champion is last. From this position, the team can either select a player or trade its position to another team for other draft positions, a player or players, or any combination thereof. The round is complete when each team has either selected a player or traded its position in the draft. The first draft was held in 1936, and has been held every year since.
