Floyd County Schools is the school district created to serve the public education needs of Floyd County, Kentucky. The district has 13 schools serving a total of about six thousand students. The school district comprises seven elementary schools : *Allen Elementary School, Allen serving grades PK-8 *Betsy Layne Elementary School, Betsy Layne serving grades PK-8 *Duff-Allen Central Elementary School, Eastern serving grades PK-8 *John M. Prestonsburg High School
Prestonsburg High School, located in Prestonsburg, Kentucky, is one of three public high schools in the Floyd County School District of eastern Kentucky Athletics Prestonsburg High is a member of the Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA) and home to the Blackcats; the school colors are red, black, and white. American football, Football games are played on the Josh Francis Memorial Field. Soccer, baseball, and softball games are played on Stone Crest. Basketball and volleyball games are played in the Blackcat Field House. Tennis matches are played on the tennis courts at Archer Park. Floyd Central High School (Kentucky)
Floyd Central High School (FCHS) is a secondary school located in Floyd County, Kentucky, United States, that opened in September 2017. The high school is a consolidation of Allen Central High School and South Floyd High School. The school mascot is Jaguars. School colors are Kentucky Teal, Black, and Gold. Academics Along with the standard curriculum, FCHS will also offer online college courses, AP & dual credit courses. JROTC Keeping with decade old tradition that Allen Central High School had, FCHS will have their own JROTC unit. Sports The Jaguars will compete in the 15th Region, 58th District in basketball, baseball, volleyball and softball. The football team will be aligned in Class 3A, District 6. Martin, Kentucky
Martin is a home rule-class city in Floyd County, Kentucky, in the United States. The population was 634 as of the 2010 census. History Martin developed as a coal mining community in the early 1900s. Its first post office, established in 1910, was named "Bucks Branch" after a tributary of Beaver Creek, the stream that runs through the city. In 1913, the community was renamed "Smalley" after a local landowner, Smalley Crisp. By 1915, however, the community had been renamed "Martin" after the postmaster, Martin Van Allen. Prestonsburg, Kentucky
Prestonsburg is a small home rule-class city in and the county seat of Floyd County, Kentucky, United States. It is in the eastern part of the state in the valley of the Big Sandy River. The population was 3,255 at the time of the 2010 census, down from 3,612 at the 2000 census. History The area was part of the grant in the early 1700s to the family of John Preston's wife, born Elizabeth Patton, which he administered on her behalf. The grant was intended to permit British colonization beyond the Blue Ridge Mountains, but subsequent French and Indian resistance and a reversal of British policy limited its impact.
