Grasshopper Manufacture
is a Japanese video game developer founded on March 30, 1998 by Goichi Suda. They are well known for creating titles such as ''killer7'' and the '' No More Heroes'' series. History The company was founded on March 30, 1998 in Suginami, Japan. Its founder, Goichi Suda, gave two reasons why he chose the name "''Grasshopper:''" The first being a reference to the song of the same name by UK band Ride, which he was listening to on repeat when forming the company. The second reason is that originally he wanted to use a Japanese word ''"battamon"'' as the company name. ''"Batta"'' means ''"grasshopper"'' and ''"mon"'' is ''"a thing"'' and when you put the words together, it means ''"copy or fake."'' However, he later changed his mind and stuck to Grasshopper instead. The word ''"Manufacture"'' was added in because his game company was about "building things." Headed by Suda, GhM were responsible for several original titles, ones that are also fraught with financial risk, but ult ...

Hyena
Hyenas, or hyaenas (from Ancient Greek , ), are feliform carnivoran mammals of the family Hyaenidae . With only four extant species (each in its own genus), it is the fifth-smallest family in the Carnivora and one of the smallest in the class Mammalia. Despite their low diversity, hyenas are unique and vital components of most African ecosystems. Although phylogenetically closer to felines and viverrids, as part of suborder Feliformia, hyenas are behaviourally and morphologically similar to canids in several elements due to convergent evolution; both hyenas and canines are non-arboreal, cursorial hunters that catch prey with their teeth rather than claws. Both eat food quickly and may store it, and their calloused feet with large, blunt, nonretractable claws are adapted for running and making sharp turns. However, hyenas' grooming, scent marking, defecation habits, mating and parental behavior are consistent with the behavior of other feliforms. Hyenas feature prominently ...

Osamu Tezuka
Osamu Tezuka (, born , ''Tezuka Osamu''; – 9 February 1989) was a Japanese manga artist, cartoonist, and animator. Born in Osaka Prefecture, his prolific output, pioneering techniques, and innovative redefinitions of genres earned him such titles as , and . Additionally, he is often considered the Japanese equivalent to Walt Disney, who served as a major inspiration during Tezuka's formative years. Though this phrase praises the quality of his early manga works for children and animations, it also blurs the significant influence of his later, more literary, gekiga works. Tezuka began what was known as the manga revolution in Japan with his '' New Treasure Island'' published in 1947. His output would spawn some of the most influential, successful, and well-received manga series including the children mangas ''Astro Boy'', '' Princess Knight'' and ''Kimba the White Lion'', and the adult-oriented series '' Black Jack'', ''Phoenix'', and ''Buddha'', all of which won several aw ...

Osamu Tezuka's Star System
is the name given to the recurring characters in manga created by manga artist Osamu Tezuka. Throughout his career, Tezuka frequently re-used the same characters in different roles across series; for example, the character Shunsaku Ban appears as a detective in ''Metropolis'' and as Astro Boy's teacher in ''Astro Boy''. The name alludes to the Hollywood practice of the star system, and can be seen as analogous to film directors who work with the same actors across multiple movies; Tezuka joked about how much his characters were paid, and occasionally based them on famous western actors. Partial character list Osamu Tezuka himself himself makes frequent appearances, usually just as an in-joke, in nearly all of his works. He can be recognized by his round spotted nose and round glasses and sometimes wears a beret. In the collected ''Astro Boy'' volumes, he often introduces stories, and dispenses trivia. He is a major character in the manga '' The Vampires''. Tezuka went so far a ...

Moonlight Syndrome
is a horror-themed adventure game developed and published by Human Entertainment for the PlayStation in October 1997. An entry in the company's ''Twilight Syndrome'' series, the game was directed and co-written by Goichi Suda. Retaining the combination of adventure and visual novel elements from earlier games in the series, ''Moonlight Syndrome'' follows series protagonist Mika Kishii as she investigates supernatural phenomena. Development of ''Moonlight Syndrome'' began following the completion of Suda's work on the first ''Twilight Syndrome'' games. Due to having little input on the original games' stories and disliking the ghost story elements, Suda focused the plot of ''Moonlight Syndrome'' around psychological horror and human capacity for evil. Critics liked the game's story but criticized the characters and long, inconsequential dialogue trees. Suda left Human Entertainment to form Grasshopper Manufacture following the release of ''Moonlight Syndrome'', but the game remai ...

Twilight Syndrome

The games generally follow high school girls investigating urban legends about ghosts and other paranormal happenings in their school and neighborhood. The first two games were directed by Goichi Suda and released for the PlayStation in 1996. Suda entered the position partway through development and thus did not have much creative input. He was more deeply involved with the next game in the series, ''Moonlight Syndrome'', but left Human shortly after to found his own company, Grasshopper Manufacture. The series was retained by Spike, which released a spiritual sequel in the form of ''Yuuyami Doori Tankentai'', before releasing two more ''Twilight Syndrome'' games, one for the PlayStation in 2000 and a Nintendo DS game in 2008. The games have been praised for their atmosphere and realistic 3D sound. Three live-a ...
